Discussion of the Day
Diabetic or drunk?
Simba 100624313-Jul-23
You are taking a walk in the park when you notice a person stumbling, do you assume they are intoxicated or do you ask if they are okay? This situation happened as I was at work and noticed a man stumbling on the lawn. Another worker also saw him and went to check on him and realized he was a coworker who was diabetic and needed assistance. What would you do?

  • Think about it seriously, if that person were yourself, how would you like to be treated by someone? Nowadays, where is the compassion? Just remember, please teach your children to learn and understand what is compassion. Start from yourself.

            • Unfortunately I have been very nervous of anyone who appears to be drunk so I wouldnt approach them but if it was at work I would ask someone else to check on them. If it was on the street I would definitely look the other way as current situations where people have been attacked for being a good samaritan. I suffer from slight diabeties and s from vertigo so have to walk carefully so as not to stumble. I have fallen once but picked myself up as I didnt want anyone to ask if I was ok . It is too embarrassing so it might be the same with others that they would prefer to be left alone unless they are in a dangerous situation where they could hurt themselves or someone else. Dont create a problem for them or yourself.

                • Im ashamed to say id probably assume the person was intoxicated. But id still approach them to see if they needed help. Ive helped MANY intoxicated people find there way to a safe place & out of trouble.
