Sick children at day care
Vic16-Apr-24
What are your thoughts on parents who bring their children to day care while sick?
My son has been sick for over a week because of this, and I'm told it's good for him... but it's been so stressful, and I would never bring him around others while he's sick

  • They shouldn't bring their kids to day care if there sick

    • They should not send their children to day care when they are sick as they are going to infect other children. I am sure if the parent was sick they would stay home from work while they recovered and the child needs the same also.

      • Yes inconsiderate

        • Some people cant afford to take off work. Kids get sick, its better for them to get it when they are little.

          • I work in childcare and I am also a parent..I see both sides...I think children being exposed to germs at a young age is good at boosting their immune system and I also think that sicknesses do last a long time and if we were to have to keep a child home because of a cough...I would have to be off for more then a week...if a child d stays home at the beginning of their illness when most contagious like a few days I think that is sufficient

            • Nothing much has changed over the years. Many kids went to school in my time that were sick or they would come over to our house where they were sent straight back home. If mine were sick I would say sorry no visitors kids have chicken pox, a cold, mumps, or whatever the illness was and yet still parents said that's OK. No I had enough looking after my sick children to take on their child/ren because they wanted to be free of them. I always say to prospective parents that once you become a parent you are one for the rest of your lives and totally responsible for them. I think the day care centre should just tell the parents pick them up now or not let them come in. I understand parents work but that's the choice they made when bubs came along.

              • I think if your kid is sick you should keep him or her home. However, every single virus I've ever heard of is contagious before your child even shows symptoms; when you don't know, you can't prevent spreading it. Everyone I've known or heard about says if your kid doesn't get things in daycare, they're bound to get it in junior kindergarten and kindergarten. It must be really tough on anyone to send their kids out knowing there are all kinds of things to get, including measles right now with so many not having their children vaccinated. And if parents don't have an alternative sitter for emergencies, they're kind of stuck. I feel bad for every parent of young ones right now. And so thankful none of my grandkids are having babies.

                • Totally agree. Sick children should stay home. They attend and the bug spreads into other homes and then Grandies babsit and they get sick and suffer much longer. Same as adults that go to work and spread it around and dont even wear a mask, etc.

                  • don't have kids, myself, and I feel for those who do, today. Must be murder, if both parents/caregivers have to work, to keep the roof over your head and food in the cupboards. But really, (I know, way easier to say), kids need to come first. If little Timmy is sick - like, stay-at-home sick - then little Timmy needs to stay home. Kids can't make the big decisions for their welfare, nor should they, but they do deserve the adults in the home to make those, (a lot of the time, difficult), decisions soberly.

                      ·
                      • THIS MAKES TWO OF THIS KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME I AM SURE MOST PARENTS WOULD DO THE SAME MIKE
