Whatever happened to all cars having a strong steel bumper bar front and back and a thick chassis underneath? Back in the day if you had a crash you can mostly be guaranteed to either drive away or have your car fixed quite quickly with minimal cost. Today have a small bump on the car and it's a completer write-off. Bumper bars and chassis were there for a reason and that reason is safety for the occupants of the car. You may have got a bit shook up but you were never seriously hurt. The advent of seat-belts has made older cars much safer. If your car is in a crash today and written off then this only causes more trouble if the car is still being paid off. So much for safer cars. I think the carmakers just want a cheaper car for the price, and hang what the consumers want.
