Does anyone find assembling furniture from Ikea easy?
APB27-Jun-21
There are guys on Air tasker and other sites who specialise in coming to your home and assembling this stuff....IKEA itself has now opened a service to come around to assemble it for you too...how hard would it be to include a sensible logical instruction list...HELLO SWEDEN...what is going on here?
Comments
  • No I have never bought Ikea furniture but I have bought furniture, shed, and a few other things that had to be erected. I think the instructions went from English through 2-3 other translations and then back to English and it was all lost in the translation. One just has to be good at jigsaws I think. What gets me is it is not cheap either.

    • Never done it. I prefer to buy furniture that is already put together.
      ·
      • Perhaps, but as intelligent as my husband is in many ways, he just aint got it when it comes to things like that. I think you have it (mainly patience) or you dont.

        • I've never purchased ikea furniture but have assembled a lot of flat-pack furniture over the years.
          ·
          • I've bought a side table, which was easy; however, I bought a TV Case for a CRT back in the day. Let's just say, it wasn't very sturdy!
            ·
            • I dislike poop wood
              ·
              • I agree. They last about as long as Australian and British prime ministers.
                ·
            • If I have enough money I want to ask locksmith to come to my house and repair something that has been damaged. I do not like to see my house damaged. I really want to invite my friends to my house.
              ·
              • I only made that mistake once - never again!
                ·
                • I never buy anything from IKEA before.
                  ·
                  • I've never bought any
                    ·
                    • My husband manages ok. I couldn't be bothered putting it together I would rather buy assembled.
                      ·
                      • I studied Wood Machining (Furniture Making), so IKEA flatpacks are a piece of cake in comparison.
                        ·
                        • Why do they make things so difficult for the average person to assemble items?
                          ·
                          • I had trouble assembling a plastic trolley from the Warehouse so i'm guessing i'd take days to do an IKEA product. Had to assemble part of a lawn mower from Mitre 10 and managed to put the handle on back to front.
                            ·
                            • I don't care for IKEA. Rather to go the op shop and buy a solid piece of furniture and do it up. I bought a metal Kmart flatpack cabinet once, crap instructions, nothing labelled, screws didn't screw into anything (just sat in there), had to drill holes for the door latches to go into. On the upside I created a whole new version of swear words!
                              ·
                              • i get the kids to do it for me

                                • Ah yes! Another Sunday... an Office Chair & a Bookcase today... they're sittng in these nice neat flat boxes in the lounge....haven't tripped over them yet which is a good start! So Start with the big box, the chair.....everythings on the floor, so are you, except the !&&&??! instructions. Manage to stand up, carefully navigate aound the bits laying around & read the bit of paper you'd forgotten to look at first time round. It's written in a version of your language which is a totally different dialect than yours & the diagrams look really straightforward, if you've got an advanced degree in Calculus. Finally you sit in the chair hoping it doesn't collapse, check the carpet for blood stains & stare at the next flat box.....it's only a bookcase it'll be easier???! First things first, you swivel your new chair so you're facing your shaky computer desk, go online and book a $100 physio appontment. Maybe next time you'll get some help, but probably wont! The Masochism of DIY.....until next weekend!

                                                • Totally agree! A logical, understandable instruction list would be the way to go!

                                                      • From what I have seen assembling the stuff is easy understanding the Destructions is a different story all together.
                                                        ·
                                                        • Well, all I can say is that eating their cheese is much easier to navigate. Ah, navigate, maybe we need to ship full of their sailors to pull into our ports and take them home to assemble it .. guess that takes care of the girls and the blokes will just have to get on the assembly line and do it themselves. On a more sensible note and speaking strictly for myself, when we bought such items, from another supplier, I had the forethought to carve out a Pinocchio for myself who is quite adapt at performing such tasks and does an excellent job of it especially if amber refreshments are on hand to make the job flow even faster.

                                                                      ·

                                                                        ·

It depends on what you have bought and how well you can read instructions. My 6 year old grandson had a Lego or similar thing and instructions and I think Einstein would be baffled
                                                                          ·

My husband had that much trouble trying to put the things together, with screws that didn't fit and some of the holes were to big the screw fell through. In the end he ignored the instructions and did it himself.
                                                                            ·

Today, with the exception of some of their food, everything is imported from China and we try not to buy anything from there now. The Australian Government sits down and does nothing about the 800+% Tariffs the Chinese Dictatorship has imposed on Australian products so we have imposed our own Boycott of Chines products or goods made in Australia by Chinese-owned companies. As the Ikea Ad says" One little light bulb may not make a difference BUT 1000s of little light bulbs make a Big Difference!

My partner does it and I must say he is very good and it certainly does stay together but the instructions are gibberish occasionally.

Recklessly (Or should that be "Wreck".....) I succumbed to DIY temptation again not long after writing it, after all what harm could another small bookcase do? Duly went online to find a matching one, only available in White now, that's OK, I have no colour bias, perfect harmony with the Black one..... Arrived on my doorstep this morning, great! Cold day, nothing like a bit of DIY on a cold winter's day to get the blood pumping, as long as I don't get any one the carpet. Lifted the box up...TRIED to lift the box up....it slowly dawned on me that this "Thing" was a whole heap bigger & heavier than the other one. Dragged it inside & propped it up against the dining table, where it remains. I'll get onto it tomorrow, maybe, after I've moved the furniture. It wont fit where I'd planned. My biggest dilemma though is they sent me one worth $50 not the one I paid $20 for, what should I do?!!!!
