Discussion of the Day
Which recipe have you been making the longest?
Joy L 6876727-Oct-24
I made my first Christmas Cake for this year yesterday and realized that I have been making this cake for 60 years. I have made it so often. It has been a birthday cake, a wedding cake and of course every year I make a lot of them to give as gifts for Christmas.
What's the recipe you have been making the longest?
Then there is my Nana's Christmas pudding recipe. I took over making that for the family 30 years ago. I still have to make 3 each year. I don't know how long Nana was making that one, but I can remember it from my childhood.

      • Probably roast dinners ( I was making them on weekends for dinner at 11/12 as mum didn't finish work until 8pm at the earliest ) I'm in my late 50's now. Dad did shift work and often took double shifts so he was likely to have been working since the early hours. Just quietly his cooking repertoire was pretty limited as well. He was a lovely man and a loving dad, but a cook he was not!

I continued the tradition when I got married. Over here, I have used the Christmas pudding recipe I found in the Australian Woman's Weekly over 50 years ago. We are expecting to fly to the Northern Territory to spend Christmas with family & my daughter will be expecting those two items when we arrive.

It takes 5 hours, start to finish and everyone loves it. One year, my husband and I went to Iowa for Thanksgiving with our oldest daughter and her new husband. We usually went to my brother and sister-in-law's for dinner, so my bread was missed. The next time the family got together, my SIL's sister told me not to ever do that again.
                                                                      ·

My mum in law did before she died, I helped her last time we visited her, we made the xmas puddings together, steaming them. Very tasty.

She's 86 and well she has stopped cooking and Dad has taken over. She burns things and she can't smell them burning which is a worry. Dad makes lasagna all the time hence Mum has gained some weight. Dad's 85 so he's still going okay for his age. He's sick as a dog ATM has some kind of cough he can't get rid of, at least he's seeing the doctor on Monday.

We went shopping this morning and there was a little boy running around Aldi coughing and touching things and I wanted to get away and out of there as soon as we could. The parents didn't seem to care their child was sick. They should have left him at home or the Dad and the kid could have stayed in the car. Dad could have let Mum shop and taken the kid to the park any thing but let him run around coughing and touching things. I sterilised my hands when we got back in the car just in case. We don't want to get sick.
