Does anyone still use Remedies
ShAkeYaBoOty28-Jun-22
Wanted to know if anyone still uses remedies or have remedies they don't mind sharing in the comment for colds & flus, with weather getting so much colder than usually this year? I like to go with good old pumpkin soup but with a few dashes of chilli just to give it a good hot kick :)

Inhale salt water morning and night to keep upper respirtary tract clear, also garge with same. helps kill germs in mouth we have always used lemon & garlic, with honey a ACV a good receipe is here The BEST Natural Antibiotic Drink (Home Remedy Formula) https://youtu.be/vnvfiCXs45E you also need sunshine every day for vit D3 with K2 to build up, as high levels of Vit D improve immune system. At the first sign of a sore throat our go to is Sambucol. It's expensive but very good. I can usually get rid of the sore throat before it becomes a cold but hubby recently got a full on cold so used both the liquid and capsules and was over it in 5 days. He usually waits to get a cold before he starts taking it. There is also the Immuno version which we have used in years gone by when we were going away and didn't want to catch a cold during our holiday.

Eat a natural source of vitamin C every six hours (thats 3 servings total throughout the day, my favourite is a whole mandarin or a kiwifruit). Our body depletes vitamin C by the 6 hour mark and vitamin C is crucial for immune cells which are constantly on the battlefront losing numbers during illness. Natural sources of Vitamin C are much better than pills as they tend to be more bioavailable and come with a bunch of other goodies/vitamins/minerals. Plus with exclusively natural sources of vitamin C it is hard to overdose and natural sources also count toward you 5+ a day servings of fruit and veg. For sore or dry throat use honey as it is a natural humectant. To reduce inflammation have homemade tumeric tea by combining honey, milk and turmeric powder with boiled water. Aim for 6g total turmeric powder throughout the day (e.g. you could have 2g for breakfast, 2grams for lunch and 2grams for dinner = 6g total throughout the day) but don't go over 6g. Many studies have confirmed that compounds in turmeric are just as strong as non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs that you get prescribed or over the counter. Have some cold pressed extra virgin olive oil with your food as the massive amount of vitamin E in it makes it a strong anti oxidant. A lot of free radicals (reactive oxygen species or chemicals that cause damage within the body) are produced during an immunity battle with a virus so loading up on natural sources of anti oxidants like tomato paste/lycopene or olive oil/vitamin E is a good idea. Drink lots of fluid as doctors often recommend as dehydration means more work for your body. Our lymph system is a fluid system after all and it aids our immune system.

Och aye definitely a hot toddy mctoddy. I remember taking care selecting lemons and lovingly making a potion with honey on the hot stove for daughter when she was a teen with a cold. Delivering to her darkened sanctum guided only by the blue light of the laptop. She would have a few sips and then i would find it a few weeks later with expensive probably more effective mould growing on the top.

Homemade chicken and garlic soup is good for you during this time. Also hot tea with lemon and honey or you can just do it with honey. If you have a cough and sore throat then raw honey is good for that. The most important things are lots of rest and to keep yourself hydrated. If you are not sick yet then just maintain a healthy diet, exercise and sleep your 8 hours. Vit C is good for the immune system to help prevent getting a cold and can reduce the time it takes to get better. Not a home remedy but I take some ibuprofen for aches and pains and to help reduce symptoms.

Paracetamol for pain, 4-6hrly, lemon and honey in warm water 3x a day, gargling salt water is also good for a sore throat, cough medicines can be helpful. Melting a cough lolly in a table spoon or 2 of boiling for a child can be given (when it's cooled down) in a 5ml syringe 2-4x a day. With lots or rest and drinking fluids helps too.

1/ Cock-a-Leekie.... or any other form of real chicken soup is remarkable restorative when you feel run-down and depressed in the winter cold. 2/ Chew fresh parsley to get rid of bad breath. Or put it in the food when cooking with garlic and here will be less garlic bread around. 3/ Garlic is a great tonic any time. So is vitamin C.from eating an orange or a kiwifruit. Home remedies however do have their limits.

Fresh lemon juice of one lemon, hot water, a teaspoon of honey and a good sprinkle of ground ginger (1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon). It brings the temperature up and you sweat it out. Take this with early night in bed, and the next morning you feel much better.

Does anyone still stick a towel over their head and a bowl of steam hot water with some herbs thrown in as well? Hot water with freshly squeeze lemon. I've also found that eating a couple of nice juicy oranges and just the process of swallowing when you have a sore throat seems to help ... a bit like massaging a sore muscle with ointment to "push the pain" out of the system.

Bed rest but the best cure is to keep away from the sickies. The flu has hit here in Oz now and people are dying from it and now the 3rd wave of Covid has hit. Masks on for me and washing the hands, keeping away from people etc. I have had 4 covid and the flu shots so hopefully this will keep me safe and well.
