Do You Think a Wild Stray Cat is Happier Indoors?
Debra D 62478002-Jan-24
I recently box trapped two beautiful cats, that were so starved. Now their hair is getting long, they are so very beautiful. Today they got gifts from Santa. They are enjoying playing with the toys, their treats, and the warmth from our wood stove.

    • Depends on the cat! They are all different. Sounds like you did the right thing for your two, now happy and healthy! Good Job! ;-D

      • My cat loves being inside. And outside for a while he loves to go outside to lay in the sun. We call him our inside outside cat. If your cats love being inside, then let them stay inside. At this stage

            • Our cat’s were rescued and we got them from the SPCA, they needed some inside time initially to give them a sense of safety and security, we added a cat door showed them how to use it, they are over 12 year’s old now, come and go as they please, leave the bird life alone, thankfully however still catch mice…

              • We got a Cat from the SPCA that was a former stray, and he absolutely hates being indoors for more than a few minutes each day.
                ·
                • not likely, but if you feed them, the cat will hang around your back door, and every other cat will join in
                  ·
                  • Idk
                    ·
                    • It is safer that they are indoors as there are too many cars about now. Getting them used to a lead can give the cat and owner regular daily walks together
                      ·
                      • I tried a lead with one cat but she was having none of that. I did have a stroller for another one. This was great because she wasn't much of a people cat but could enjoy walks.
                        ·
                      • I actually just got them a lead and harnass to teach them to go on walks with me.

                    • HM, NOT SURE
                      ·
                      • Depends on the cat. Keeping them together will be important, if they are happy then keep on doing what you are doing, but get them desexed
                        ·
                        • I had both of them neutered, shots, wormed, and no fleas on them. Their ears was cleaned and their nails was trimmed.
                          ·
                      • Dogs have masters cats have staff. Those cats are taking you for a ride and will still be killing local wildlife.
                        ·
                        • This cat wasn't feral but it is a funny story. My neighbor kept seeing a black cat in her back yard. After several weeks of feeding him outside she finally took him in where he was extremely happy. There was no collar so she did the vet, etc. Months went by and the neighbor was taking the cat somewhere. The people who lived behind her said, "there's so and so!". The neighbor's husband was handicapped so the people told them to keep Smutz.

                          • Yes. They get tender loving care

                            • So sweet! We had a semi-wild cat once who came and went as he pleased. It was hard to read him and we thought he just liked a port in a storm at times, but craved the freedom of roaming freely. I'm guessing it's all subjective- the cat's needs in the moment!

                              • And......with so much illness with my husband, they have done as much for us as we have done for them.

                                • I love my two stray kitties, they are brothers it appears and love it indoors by the wood stove to keep warm.

                                    • They may enjoy outside but they are safer indoors. There's way to many strays that get killed
                                      ·
                                      • Don't know and don't care (to your question). Not a pet-lover (under any circumstances)!

                                        • Feral and outdoor cats may enjoy being indoors and the comforts of their humans some of the time, but always give them the option of a sneak-away that is "outdoorsy" AND make sure they get to the vet, bug stuffs, neutered and vax, please.

                                            • My sister found a stray kitten and took it home and "Pumpkin" became another pet for her kids, along with a dog and the cat she adopted from a shelter. But Pumpkin hated being indoors, and stayed in the yard or on the porch, sort of a compromise between being wild and domesticated.

                                              • They may have been inside cats and abandoned when the original owners moved house or left them out when they went away on a holiday.

                                                • They must have been domestic cats as feral cats rarely if ever go well indoors or with people. Good on you though for taking them in and caring for them.

                                                  • It took me a couple of months to tame them, get them neutered, shots, wormed, fed well, now they are so beautiful, their hair is growing where it was not before, they turned out to be golden persians.

You are very patient. Golden Persians are gorgeous cats. Obviously, someone dumped them something I cannot condone or understand.

                                                  • I feel the same Linda. How could anyone dump these beautiful cats. When I first caught them, their hair was short and rough, now it is about 3 inches long and soft and beautiful and no stripes on them, just the gold all over the one the other one has gold and soft creamy white bib and feet. I have no idea where they came from, but they were just hide over bones when I found them.

You have given them a chance at life. I see UTube where dogs and cats are just dumped and are in horrendous pain or and condition and rescued by kind people but it is only the tip of the problem. People are cruel and thoughtless. Your little fur balls sound gorgeous.

                                                • No, I don't think so. I was given a Stray Cat, by my 10 year old nephew. When my mother inlaw saw it she had a fit, it was black, but after she stuck it in a laundry sink, it turned out to be white, and all the flees, left in the basin, I tried to tame it but as soon as it found and open door it took of, We got it back inside and gave it a feed, but it took off again, It finally went back to the place the kids found the ,poor cat , and it the oly thing we could do was to let the kids take food and water out to it

                                                    • Thank you Pamela, they are so happy indoors here by the wood fire for warmth, food by them all the time, their shots, wormed, and neutered. They danced around in that box trap, they hissed at me, snarled, growled, but I tamed them within a month or two, i caught and tamed them one at a time. Now they are such beautiful cats, i still pinch myself when I look at their beauty. I can tell their was brothers, by how much they love one another and stay side by side.
