Discussion of the Day
Who is the most famous person you have ever met?
05-Dec-20
Did they live up to your expectations? I've met Geoffrey Rush and Rutger Hauer (now deceased). The latter was a better experience than the former. It's best not to idolize anyone full stop because we are all human beings.

                  • I have met a lot of politicians including 2 PM's, a couple of Premiers and the Governor General, musicians, celebrities etc. during my working life. None really impressed me all that much. A few were very nice to me including Bob Hawke, Malcolm Fraser and his wife also but I never had long chats with any of them. Some of the old musicians are really nice such as Gerry Marsden who had a lot of time for his fans and also Jimmy Barnes who was really sweet to my grand daughter.

                                • Being famous is playing a role or filling a position. One can respect a position without respecting the person who inhabits it temporarily. The people are just other humans who may or may not have some specific abilities.

                                              • There's a well known saying that you're not you, when you're in the presence of a star! Star power rubs off on you? ;-) The irony of it all is that there are many a moments when a Star isn't quite their usual self themself, as part of their Starring role in what they do. I think of this as the Superman/Clark Kent Star phenomenon! So next time you see a famous Star and a whole group of fans cheering/gloating/smiling/etc, ask yourself who really is playing a starring role?

They all seem to have nasty little secrets they would rather no-one - especially the Police - ever finds out about! Wife/Husband abuse, paedophilia and other nasties. As a 9-year-old I met a Senior Bishop who came to our boarding school (yes, we were a bit posh then!) he stayed overnight and the headmaster, who had also had his way, passed me on to him. Fun for him! Today I trust no-one including so-called "Famous People".

In essence, they are all horribly mixed up; comedians are all unhappy in the main, actors all seem to be married multiple times; they are all on show at all times; they are self-indulgent and so on.. The most important and famous person you can meet is yourself. Try understanding your self; it's amazing what it will do for your self-esteem. You don't have to be on show all the time and you can just be yourself. For want of a better word, it's called personal development.
