So many comments on here about controlling your life and governments and conspiracy theories and rip offs. In Australia we have Aged Care. If you want you can have an assessment to see how you’re coping with self care and home care. Then if you need some help you can use the services offered. Believe it or not some people may not realise they aren’t coping so well themselves and actually need it. It’s care, it’s help and for most of the elderly or vulnerable it’s welcome. Generally it sounds good. However I attended a pain clinic a while ago for us (about 20 or so sufferers) to be told by a pregnant 20 something that we don’t need pain killers. And she was looking forward to her first birth drug free! Lottsa luck I reckon. But to have advice as one ages is OK. As long as you have ownership and are able to work with it. As a 73 year old with a lot of aches and pain because of collapsing spine, My doctor put me in touch with NDIS, with a healthy package, I have 2 ladies that come for 3 hours Monday to Friday, they do the house work, and if on shopping day I'm in pain and can't move, the do my shopping, Friday is our social day, so we go out, and on Thursday I have Physio, and once a month I have my gardner, it's all gratefully paid for by NDIS, so no thanks I don't need anyone else

I've just done a survey on a subject very similar,. It described some ways of living at home with some home health services available to help you and what sort of things you might require in the future or what things put you off ,in getting home help . It seemed to have some good assistance programs on offer ( cost I do not know!) Also helps to navigate the services you want or cancel some. Wanting the right people in your home. For some it's just the company also has benefits. Scary they noted was did the person delay services to keep their independence and not be wanting to admit they're getting old and couldn't do things they used to. Gardening ,cleaning etc.. It all starts with an in home assessment.....lt may be slightly different from the program you mention but dependant on which way you look at it ,cherry pick what you think you would like/ needed to use or take nothing ,either or it's always up to you !

I looked at my own eating and drinking habits, exercise patterns, sleeping patterns, and came up with my own perfect plan as to what I should be doing. It was free, and I didn't have to follow through, but I wanted to be healthier. I cut my daily calorie count down to 1200, increased my fluid intake, and lost 40 pounds in 9 months. I sleep 7 hours a night, and I did NOT increase my exercise because, at 76 years old, I didn't feel like it. Now I weight 140 pounds, at 5' 2". My goal is 135, so I'm almost there! I learned, after trying almost everything advertised on TV for weight loss, that I could do it with nothing, on my own! Oh, I also do intermittent fasting by eating dinner before 7pm and breakfast at 11am. I'm happy, and healthy, and it didn't take anything but wanting to do it for me to get me here! I would be very wary because we just had an audit by the state government trying to help us use less electricity. The person was here for quite some time measuring everything, shower heads, appliances, checking curtains and floor coverings. Despite having a solar system we do use a lot of electricity so were hoping for some advice. Our appliances are all relatively new and come with either 4 or 5 stars so we have no idea what is using all the power. Our home rated within the normal range and the recommendation was for us to switch to gas. Another example of governments wasting tax payer money.

When you say " local authorities "whom do you mean. Is this a government initiative, your doctor,the police? If it is your doctor then it's probably in your best interests to do so. That amount of pro active care where I am costs a significant amount of money. At least try and find out more about this or even better find someone who has participated already for their view. There is alot of things health wise that have no significant symptoms until it's untreatable so if your asked to have tests and don't understand why, then ask. It honestly could save your life.

Who supplies this service? Are the workers licensed? Who, vets these examiners? This may be the time to remember: If it sounds too good to be true, then it probablyly is.

We get a healthcare plan once we hit 70 that covers most things - If we live that long!.

A bit scary I would say and why would some one look after you for free. There could be a catch some were in the fine print. I would certainly not be signing any thing without another person going over what you are signing either a loved one or at least if you have one a solicitor or legal help.

I find it a lot scary with someone telling me how I should lead my life when there is nothing wrong with the way that I live. It is a problem that I have had most of my life with others telling me how to live only to discover that sometimes they follow my example, which is also very scary. I believe that when some tells others how to live, that they just want to justify their own lives. Here, have a smoke, it will not kill you. I have been doing it for years now. There is nothing wrong seeing how others like to life and maybe there i s something that others do, that can improve your own live.

I find HELP an offensive word particularly when used by members of the medical profession. They seem to have the idea you will live your life the way they tell you to and to hell with anything you want to do and they have the power to make you do as you are told for your own good which in all cases I have seen so far a life for length but not for living.

If u need help with all that then you are a target for this service.

Another way to have more of your rights taken away. That's how it sounds to me. Not to mention having someone from law enforcement hovering over you in control of every move you make. I believe that once you reach a certain age you should be able to do what you want to do. Isn't that the whole point in working all of your life? I always thought that was a lot of what RETIREMENT meant. If it is something that is affecting your health then that is why you have a family member(s). No! A million times NO! Of course there will always be those who want to take advantage of everything on offer. We may be told they are Free of Charge and well they may be for those who join in BUT someone has to pay for all these "Services" and it is usually other Ratepayers, the Taxpayers who pay with ever-increasing Council Rates, Federal, State & Territory Fees, Levies, Taxes etc.. We used to visit one of those so-called Aged Care Residential institutions, very fancy, very expensive offering almost everything EXCEPT Mental Stimulation. They had a resident Physiotherapist who conducted what he called Exercise Sessions every day. We were visiting a close family friend and went with them to thes so-called Exercises! What a pathetic Joke! The Exercise consisted of the inmates, having arrived by wheelchair, it was quicker for the staff to dump them in one than having to walk with them to the Exercise Room, which is what they all should have done, sitting on chairs in a circle, they were then handed two pieces of flimsy voile which, even using a set of Scientific Scales which can weigh 1/10th of a gramme or less,, would not have registered. The "exercise consisted of the inmates, still sitting, having a scrap of material in each hand and raising their arms up and down, 12 times each side. What this was supposed to acheive even heaven would be wondering! Councils, with the help of such Do-Gooder organisations such as Councils for the Agering, staffed entirely by what look like teenagers straight out of TAFE or some minor university, think they are helping. They're not they are just play acting, responding to the "Experts". get off you backsides, ladies and gentlemen, joim a Gym, they all have Real Exercise Programmes for Older people, they include Fexibility, Mobility Exercises, some Weight Training, many have a Dietitian who comes along once or twice a week who gives sensible advice. You actually have to exert yuorselves but isn't that the Reason you undetake some Exercise? Yes, you have to pay for it, but then nothing is Free unless you are happy to bludge off other Rate/Taxpayers.

i am on the scary side,i do cop a bit of grief from NDIS people on how we should bring up Hunter telling us all of the above but at the same time they tell me every kid with autism is different these guys don't work with the kids they generally don't have kids yet they know how to be parents and what is best for our little guy,as they control our budget i listen and receive but work with the hands-on careers ,self-serving free help is trouble to me Edited 08-Dec-23 07:49am

My mum is 74 and has managed well without intervention. Maybe they should aim towards younger generations who don't suffer from water retention but takeaways retention.

Iam not aware of any such services but I do know rest homes and aged care facilities offer this but you have to pay a hefty amount.

SCARY just more invasion of privacy and data collection by an entity that is probably not an authority in that particular field. I hurt my back once and this young girl a physio in her 20's was telling me to do these exercises which were way beyond my capabilities or body. She said she could do them when she hurt her back. I said yep but you were 50 years younger than me also. I think they forget or do not realise as we age everything gets that little bit harder with arthritis, muscle deterioration. lack of mobility etc. I have not heard of this in Australia unless you mean Aged Care but with this they recommend stuff but you have to pay for it which is out of the question for many people and then often they say you can only have either/or.

It is not something I would ever become involved in. I guess there may be some people who would find it helpful.

That is scary. What State or Province do you live in? Our local authorities don't have the time to do that nor would I want them to. And it's quite a safe city.
