Discussion of the Day
Rude on the road
27-Nov-20
Why are people so rude on the roads these days, before people used to give way to other people out of being polite. Now days people don't let anybody in, if you try to change lanes, people speed up so you can't
If you park at the supermarket car park, once you have finished your shopping, and want to reverse out of your spot, no-one will stop to let you out, I've even had someone go around me, and I was half way out. What is wrong with people these days?
Comments
  • People out on the road seem impatient, in a rush and anti social as if every single person is struggling

    • I am never rude. And I never got offended by rudeness. Never reacting because this is always my choice to look at the rudeness like at the joke or to take it seriously. I always give way to those who needed, always saying thank you, always smiling. This is human nature being rude sometimes. So what? Take care of your emotions. Do not react. That's my rule of life. :)

      • Rude is just rude, it's all a numbers game, we're just noticing it more. Cure, ignore and get on with a life

        • Agree with Tina C on the issue of not letting you enter an outlet, especially if you are in front of them. There are certain areas that do this is hobart. Ond of the worst places is supermarkets. Hi loathe those who drive within 3 metres on you. If im doing 110 speed limit they should sit behind or go into right hand lane. All i want for xmas is a dash cam. Going to set it up so i can film the idocy on our roads. Not enough policing where they need too. Kaz x

          • cant stand people who are rude on the road, take a deep breath and look around you before you rant and rave to some one on the road.

            • Too much self righteousness and not bothering about others
              ·
              • Some people are rude, ignorant and arrogant on the road. Then you have people who aren't even capable of doing the speed limit. Some peoples driving skills leave a lot to be desired. How they obtain a license to drive astounds me.

                • Stress and they haven't got the time
                  ·
                  • Rudeness is everywhere today including on the roads. When or where do the young get taught politeness and respect for others. If that starts happening again, then we might see a change in the way people drive again.

                    • Everyone is impatient .Try giving a wave when you do have someone give way & MAYBE most motorists will start giving a wave Try it anyway
                      ·
                      • I totally agree. They want to be first all the time even if they don't save time. They probably believe that they are better drivers than you.
                        ·
                        • People with this behavior are the same everywhere else. At work, at home, at the shops, on the sport field... Luckily they are still in minority, but future looks scary.

                          • Some drivers are arrogant on the road and believe because they put their indicator on they can just merge lanes without waiting for a courtesy wave in.My husband hate drivers who dont plan ahead when they see a lane closed sign and try to wait until the very last moment to merge in and beat the queue.

                            • I’m only rude when stupid people do such stupid things and a lot do

                              • I do not drive either but as was said being a pedestrian is not always easy either. Also I take public transit and folks that drive have no use for the bus most of the time, What a shame. Wit till they need the bus.

                                • It is frustrating and can also be dangerous. Pedestrians and cyclists also have to be careful with these kind of drivers around.

                                  • What really gets up my nose is when there are very clear signs stating that a lane up ahead is closed most people gradually switch lanes, surprisingly drivers in the lane you need to move into seem to be happy to let you do so and then when you reach the point where the lane is blocked people come charging up to the barrier and then try to force their way into the open lane. Never a Thank You Wave and I will leave it to you to think who they are who are the rudest, pushiest!

                                    • The me me me people, broadcasting on their phones about where they are, what they are doing, what they have eaten...photographing themselves again and again...its all about them, they are the centre of their own imaginary universes...and now its being turbo charged by covid...how dare you try and use their road before them...empathy?..compassion?...patience?..that's like so old school you know?

                                      • Mostly I have found that where the traffic is heavier people are more aware and more polite. It appears that this is the reverse in smaller centres in the main. Of course I am sure there are impolite people everywhere in the population.

                                        • it is surprising the number of clowns who take off like rockets at lights and next lights they are waiting for a change to turn right/left. you go past and smirk to oneself

                                          • Good topic for a start. This has been going on for such a long time but over the last year I have found it to be worse. Maybe due to the virus but I feel any excuse will do. I always think to myself when I reach the traffic lights and the person who has used speed to get to it at the same time. Very ironical. It does not save time but destroys lives often.

                                                • It's very sad that you've experienced only rudeness. I find people willing to let other drivers in, and being courteous, and I make sure I practise courtesy also. If I let someone in, I find my example is almost always followed by the person behind me.

People can be very selfish and think they will be slower getting somewhere by not letting people in. However they've done lots of studies to show the opposite, traffic flows much better if you just let people change lanes with ease.
                                                                          ·

                                                                            ·

                                                                                ·

It is as if their time is more important than anyone else and how dare you slow them down for one second. People seem to be much more angrier also. Also I am sure people do not know how to merge in traffic or use round-a-bouts. I think backing out into oncoming traffic even in a car park is not on. If a person stops to let you out then this is a nice person. I remember the days when people used to wave you through etc. also. Much nicer. I don't remember road rage 30 years ago and it seems the last 5-10 years it has become common place.
