Are Magazine Articles Fact or Fiction?
Marietta M16-Mar-25
I used to read magazines, and one of the reasons I lost interest is because you can't be sure of what's claimed to be factual. I had read an article on Americans and work, and it stated that, given the choice of having more free time for family and friends or more time working, the majority of Americans would prefer to work. (????) While I'm sure there are some people who would feel that way, I find it hard to believe that the majority do. It makes me wonder how valid these polls, surveys, interviews, etc., that they claimed were done really are. Were they falsified, or maybe faked altogether, to go along with what was written, with the claim the writer was making? Am I being cynical, or savvy?

Statistics can always be manipulated. Just like the surveys on this site. Only a select group of people who meet the initial criteria, then answer the right way, and its extrapolated from there. Take a poll of 1000 people and then state that they represent a country, etc. Media has always had an agenda.

If I ever do read any it is with skepticism at best. I saw a photograph of Nicole Kidman in 3 magazines but from different angles. Different story for each unrelated to each other as well. People tend to believe the written word these days more than ever. The internet is rife with falsehoods.

What you say reminds me of way back before Princess Diana was pregnant. She was maybe digesting a sandwich or had a looser top on but SO many articles said she was pregnant. Lies for a long time. Eventually they were true.

Jennifer Anniston was another. She never was pregnant and I don't think she ever wanted to have children anywway.

It's so cruel, eh? What if they were actually trying and the magazines and tabloids rubbed the pain in deeper?!
