Snow for Christmas
Simba 100624313-Dec-24
Does having snow at Christmas make it more like Christmas for you, or does it really matter?
I am from the Caribbean and enjoyed the warmth at Christmas. I moved to Canada over 40 years ago, now I cannot see Christmases without snow. My children enjoy tobogganing which, in turn, I enjoy.
Hiking in the snow is also a lot of fun.
Do you enjoy Christmas with or without snow?

          • Never experienced a white Christmas.. so until I do, it's hard to say. But when watching a Christmas movie there is something heart-warming when the first snowflakes fall as the movie comes to its joyful climax.

                                • In either 1954 or 55 we had snow on Christmas Day we had snow on Mount Lofty in Adelaide. My brother was either 3 months old or 15 months old. Mum would have like to gone up far enough to see it but Grandma was living with us and very sick.

                                          • I like snow at Christmas - but - for anyone traveling by car to visit family, etc., it is sometimes a hazard for driving.

                                            • Somehow, I'm not sure how or why, it just doesn't 'feel' like winter/Christmas without the stuff. I was born here in Canada but there have been many years where the snow was neither present or expected and they were just plain cold.

                                              • When it snows here it is limited in amount, but it looks grand for about 1 or 2 hours and then disappears. If we are lucky there might be more next year. Of course, this occurs during our Winter which is not Xmas time.

                                                • I have experienced snow once at Xmas in Vienna whilst on holiday. It was beautiful. My regular Xmas is a hot Aussie one. If I’m hosting Xmas, I like a cool, pleasant day, not a hot sticky one. The younger me liked a Xmas spent by the pool or beach. I enjoy Xmas whatever the weather.

                                                                                • When I was young in Melbourne growing up I used to get quite confused about never seeing snow at christmas. It's on all the shows, cards, Stories, you name it. Why didn't I ever get it. It wasn't fair. And then I got older and understood a bit more about seasons. So I guess snow could be fun. but whether christmas is on the 25th of December, 25th of November, the 4th of October, the 25th of September, the 17th of August, the 25th of July, the 25th of June, the 29th of May, the 25th of April, the 25th of March, the 29th of February, or even the 25th of January. Figure out if kids like snow or not?
                                                                                  ·
                                                                                  • I don't think it really matters does it? I grew up in Oatlands - Tasmania, Australia where one year it be over 30 degrees on Christmas Day then next year it could be 10 degrees or less and snowing. (despite it being Summer) So as a kid we got the best of both worlds there now I live in the desert in Western Australia and there is no snow here - ever. Just hot in Summer, really hot and really hot (obviously) on Chrismtas Day. Personally despite growing up in a very cold place I prefer the heat any day over the cold. So for Christmas Day I prefer the heat. But for the kids everyone should experience Christmas Day in the snow to just make it just that so much more magical. Afterall kids have always been brought up in many parts of the World that Christmas Day involves snow. So let's create the magic of letting the kids of today to experience that. As an adult I don't think it really matters to much if it there is snow or not.
                                                                                    ·
                                                                                    • It is all relevant to where you spent your childhood and where you live now. Could be extreme opposites. I've never had snow as Christmas is in our summer.
                                                                                      ·

                                                                                        ·

                                                                                          ·

                                                                                            ·

I associate Christmas as snow as well but these days (as an adult) I really don't think it matters to much as I have experience both snow and no snow. It's Summer where I live during Christmas.

Don't really like the cold or the wind so I do prefer warmer weather and we get plenty of sunshine here in Queensland.

We have been here for 75 years now & it was hard in the early days to have Christmas here in the sweltering heat. It was hard to get organized with sending presents & cards so early, for them to arrive in time for Christmas. As whether I like a white Christmas or a hot one, I'm undecided because I like both.

I wouldn't mind if that was it, frankly, a gentle January thaw and bring on Spring! But yes, it definitely looks and feels more like Christmas/Jul/Solstice etc. with snow...

I had never seen snow until I went to live in England and it did indeed snow before Christmas and apart from the snow I had to learn about black ice. I sat looking at the snow through the window and thought about Christmas day in Australia where the condensation would be running down my glass of something cool. The following Christmas was spent in New England where it was even colder but they had a snow drought, so no skiing but plenty of ice skating. I was very glad to be back home for the following Christmas because I am used to catering for a hot Christmas and had no idea what to eat for a cold Christmas. Snow looks pretty but Christmas for me is hot, not 40C but low 30's.

Being in New Zealand means Christmas is in the summer, so no snow (not that there is snow at any time of year in Auckland anyway) ... just stinking hot weather, which means it's far too hot for traditional Christmas meals and any sane person stays inside preferably with air conditioning systems going full blast. 🙁 But even here, many Christmas cards, etc. still feature snowy scenes.

There was snow but not as much as usual they said, but it was piled high in the street gutters which made it difficult to get my pram across the road. People thought I was odd taking my children out for a walk in below zero temperature. Even before I was baptized we didn't celebrate Christmas so the neighbours thought we were Jewish.

Other neighbours brought us a small Christmas tree and another brought us cookies. We seemed to be the talk of the neighbourhood, and with a weird accent as well.

Other places have ample plus snow like Alaska and Siberia and Antarctica. Children love snow, playing in it, building snowmen and forts and other games, Others love to go skiing or snowboarding and snowmobiling and even taking a sleigh ride. But snow can be treacherous, dangerous and can cause a lot of accidents even death and destruction. We do not celebrate Christmas it is a pagan holiday and has never been nor will ever be the birth date of Christ nor has it ever been about him. It is about celebration, parties, fun, erecting a tree which Jeremiah 10 says is idolatry and promoting a fat man in a red suit doing impossible things that are magical to kids and it perpetuates a lie We need snow packs in the mountains for water sources and for fire prevention's and getting to dry in summer months. But I can live without the ice, snow, and cold just fine. Not wanting snow is not good but having too much is also not good and we have to be aware how dangerous it can be and use caution in what we do and interaction with others to avoid accidents and hurt and more.
