I was in a serious relationship 2 years ago (we literally paid off an engagement ring etc) and it was all going great, but then he couldn't put up with his mother demanding he marry a Punjabi Hindu girl anymore. We broke up. I'm not mad at him - it's unfortunately still a cultural thing in India.
I found myself in a situationship with a Sri Lankan Muslim guy. My problem is that my mum is getting excited thinking I might end up with this guy simply because I'm almost 40. I've told her a number of times that's not the case (partly because of the Punjabi Hindu guy) and I'm not looking to get married etc anytime soon. Every time I talk to her on the phone, she is asking about this guy and how it's going, etc.
How do you get someone to see that things don't have to always be a relationship/marriage or whatever because you're almost 40. Anyone else have similar issues with parents/friends etc?
