There are a lot of different ideas when it comes to what age a child is old enough to have a pet of their own to care for and be responsible for the needs of the animal. What is your best guess as to when a child is old enough to take on that responsibility? All kids mature at different rates, so keep that in mind and if you have a personal situation in your family or a family you know of going through it, please share what's worked and what hasn't. The last thing a parent wants to do is get that begged for animal, just to realize the child has no intention of doing the work that goes along with an animal or is just too young to grasp it in the first place, and now mom and/or dad are left with the responsibility.
