Which accents are your favorites to listen to?
And, why do you like them? Is it a roll of the tongue or a sharp drop in a word spoken? Let us know!
(Oh, and when, I state accents, I mean when someone is speaking the English language, not in their own language[s] )

For some reason I hate posh English accents for men but find them very attractive and charming on a woman

I love the geordie accent alas it seems it has almost disappeared. Last time I was over in the UK, pre COVID, it was extremely hard to find anyone in Newcastle that had the accent.

Hi Leonora. POM is a term reserved for ex English. Many explanations from where it originated but concensus seems to suggest it refers back to the "treansportation days" of prisoners hence Prisoner of Mother England. Another suggestion is that it is rhyming slang for immigrant (pomegranite). Have a happy and safe New Year to all

Absolutely New Zealand accent it sounds like a combo of posh English and Australian and I love it, as an Australian I hate our accent of course but secondly I also like some great English accents. I can’t understand what most Irish and Scottish are saying dint know why they’re so popular.

The topic Accents always reminds me of a company called 'Accent Blinds' which has been providing window furnishings in the Sydney, Hunter Valley and Newcastle area for over 30 years. I remember watching many Accent Blinds ads in the 90s (my high school years!). Always been a mystery to as to what Accents has to do with blinds? *Shrugs*. That is until I looked up the meaning of the word 'Accent'. Turns out 'Accent' has another meaning, other than to do with speaking : It means to 'Emphasize' a particular feature! Of course, I thought to myself! The window blinds emphasize the window portion of a room especially when combined with Sunlight! So now, having made this discovery, I'm sure the other meaning of Accent, to do with speaking - has the same effect! Emphasizes the talk! Irish Accent is definitely my favourite! :-)

I think it's hard to beat a lilting, soft Irish accent, although Welsh comes fairly close. There's a softness but still strong.

There are many accents that I like. Each one unique to the persons language. My dad was Irish from Southern Ireland which was different to the accent of the people from Northern Ireland, also my future son in law is South African and he has a beautiful accent. Of course I love the Australian accent. I have lived most of my life in Australia, originally from the UK but people still pick up my English accent but when I talk to my cousins in the UK they say I sound like an Aussie. Language and accents are very intriguing Great discussion thank you.

Scandinavian accents too caused more than a frivolous flutter but my heart was stolen in a Youth Hostel in Italy by young man asking, "Jeez are you a sheila?" because of my very short hair. I had no idea what he was saying. Last week we celebrated 55 years of marriage.

I am disappoint in you (Mr. Andrew B.) - I did not state their was anything wrong with their accent - however, it is hard to understand a Brooklyn accent. Brooklyn was the last borough to become part of New York City - hence, Brooklyn was isolated from the rest of New York City and develop their own speech pattern (if that is the correct word to use) - CIAO - LOL!!
