If I need something specific don’t rely on a website alone - use sites for reviews and call direct for specific requests always

How can anyone advice you about accommodations? This is a very personal decision, you know your wants, needs and abilities.

I read all the reviews on Trop Advisor. They show pictures from customers and the from the hotel.

I always book directly with the hotel and ask questions before I book.

I've done quite a bit of Airbnb and Stayz type of accommodation and find you can talk to the owners to find out specifics if needed before you book. I do also read reviews and look at photos of places beforehand to get an idea.

we now don't do budget & prefer to do premium. So can't offer advice

I always go for 4 Star and above if possible, had a couple of bad experiences with budget holidays.

No, I don't have budget holidays much preferring luxury. If I go on holiday I don't want to have to make the bed, do the dishes or worry about what to cook, I want to be waited on. I can usually get a 4 star holiday for a budget price with Luxury Escapes and very often it's a Hilton.

Go for last minute booking. Usually get 4 stars holiday at a very good price. 💰

Haven't had a holiday since before Covid so have no great ideas to offer.

Sorry, no, as I haven't traveled since 2013 when I moved to the island where I now reside. I moved with dogs, so we stayed at Motel 6. The rooms were clean and the price was reasonable, but that was 11 years ago, before COVID-19, before everything got so crazy. ;-(

Just ask what is available for the time you want to go and be nice and caring especially if you want something special

Sarah G 76834 - isn't ghastly that we all are being reduced being nothing more than a number? May I add to my earlier remarks? If you go through a Letting Agency and explain that you have mobility issues which means you can't cope with stairs, steep driveways etc. I think if the Agency is in any way decent they will bend over backwards to get you suitable accommodation. They want you to come back to them for your next holiday, if they can show the people they work for that they can keep their Holiday Rentals full and in demand they will get a reputation for efficiency so they will get more clients and more customers like yourself so they will make more money and get the great satisfaction that YOu have been Happy with what they provided you with. Try to deal directly, by phone or Australia Posts' "Snail Mail", with the Letting Agency/Landlord. That way you become a real person, with special needs and not just some unknown number on ther Internet.

I agree with Wendy,check reviews of users as well as photos that some people will provide with their review. Some I checked recently for a trip to Adelaide provided shots of outside the venue and internal shots of the room ,even food from the local area wirh prices. If you are thinking of using a booking/ search engine and find something you like,double check through Google maps,as they have a list of ammonites usually most up to date and if you call direct the accommodation will usually match or beat the booking company price.

ask, and insist they respond intelligently, what access is like. Ask if there are stairs, a steep driveway or walk up to the premises if mobility is a problem and at the same time make it clear to your prospective landlord or the people you are booking the accommodation with that you have problems. No-one wants to rent out accommodation which might result in you having an accident which might leave the owners/agents open to some sort of legal challenge.

Check out reviews where you can ask questions back and get results.

If you book through any of the internet travel sites, Trip Advisor, Travelocity, Expedia, etc., you can specify or request the specific type of accommodations that you are looking for. If you know which hotel, motel, AirBnb, you are interested in, you can call or email the reservations desk and discuss your preferences. Good luck!

Call first before booking or be specific as to what it is you need and want. Cabins in van parks are always a cheap option and some have ramps instead of stairs. I do guess it does depend on where you are going and how much you want to spend.

There are always multiple sites to look at accommodation with details and pictures.If unsure email or ring and ask them directly.

Now I just did my research for you Sarah, I've heard that yellow stair with pink pocka dots are fine, green stairs with black or blue stripes are fairly good too.

I go on holidays so rarely I wouldn't really be able to say much. Although if I ever book anything it is about the cheapest I can get, not the stairs, so I doubt I know anything in that way either.

When it comes to holiday hotels, a room with a view would be lovely. I could see all the hustle and bustle of the city streets from upstairs. I think TripAdvisor, Hotwire.com, or Expedia.ca would offer the best advice regarding hotel accommodations (i.e. 4-star hotels at 2-star prices, breakfast included, all-inclusive hotels, pool/gym/movie theater, etc.). I've never travelled outside of Canada yet, but I have seen advertisements on TV for those travel hotel agencies.Edited 06-Jul-24 10:58am

"Staycation" ... just stay at home, it's the cheapest holiday you can have, you know where everything is (inside and near by), and nothing can accidentally be left behind or forgotten. 😛

Never experienced that problem when we have been overseas and booked accommodation it has always been very nice. The best thing would be to ring the place you want to stay at and tell them your needs such as no stairs etc.

I always ask those questions if I can't find the info. I prefer to stay with friends and family for that reason, because I know what will be there when I arrive. For those other occasions research is the key 🔑 to no surprises or dislikes.

We're house /cat sitting last few years. Always go and meet them first. Just about to do our 4th in Adelaide for same people. Feel like its our second home now.

When in doubt either don't book or ring/online/email etc chat to confirm that the place has no stairs etc. What I hate most is when the room does not look anything like the photo (it is a photography technique to make the room look better/bigger etc).

Im handicapped so I have to have certain things, like a bottom floor room and walk in shower. The travel sites don't asks about being handicapped so I am at a loss when visiting them. There are so many things you cannot do through travel web sites. For instance, What if you want to know the difference in price between the prices in coach flights, business flights and first class flights. They have none of that info. Also why do planes not have handicapped seats?

Trip adviser has many accommodations on site with photos of the properties and comments from people who stayed there. I found them most informative and helpful when I booked all my trips. Also, Google the property which should show photos etc. also. Never go in blind.
