Why do people lie?
Dianne W 79596223-Dec-22
I called a service department today at 9:30 and the man said he will found out and get back to me today. It is now 6:48 PM, and I am still waiting. Also, a friend told me something and 2 days later, I found out that it was a lie. WHY????

  • Some people lie to avoid confrontation. An ex family member of mine just couldn't tell it like it was incase it sparked an argument. He would tell his customers he would be at their house by a certain time when he knew he couldn't be, then turn up and blame the traffic, the weather or whatever else he could think of. In the end everyone in the family knew not to trust a word he said

    • People lie because they want their pants on fire.

      • My daughter's boyfriend is a pathological liar. If he had a nose like Pinocchio it would reach to the next province (I live in Ontario).

        • Little white lie’s and big black lie’s!!! Little white lie’s are usually harmless, sometimes folks motive’s are to protect, or just to save the anguish, whereas big black lie’s are to cover up a terrible unjust, or that person/person’s are disturbed mentally, lying can also be part of an addiction or addictive personality. Truth set’s the soul free, also keep in mind, every thing is a need to know bases and sometimes it maybe wiser to say nothing!

          • because most people are immoral and have lost their faith in God

            • I think service people mean to get back with you. When doing service work time estimation is a real problem. Now as far as friends I have a big whopper of a story but it would take to long and not be properly appreciated but hey you can usually cut them out of your life.

              • I think people lie because it might be easier than the truth. I work for a call center and am told everyday that I am a liar even though I do my job well and do what I can do personally.

                • My friend told me that he had dinner with John and his wife Lisa, but I found out 2 days later that Lisa died 2 weeks prior to that dinner. The service department never called me back so I went some place else and they took care of me.

                  • Loads of different reasons....depends on the lie in question, the person lying and their particular circumstances. I have had people tell horrible lies about me. One person I should have been able to trust. I figured maybe they felt threatened by me. Funny thing is, they had no reason to. With the service guy, might he have just forgotten? I don't know. Sometimes I think the world's a pretty corrupt place. One person who accused me of lying once totally had the wrong end of the stick - my answer was true, but they didn't seem to get what I was saying. A complex answer to a complex question.

                    • My thought on lying is to cover up on what they did or want probably will not happen in your case Dianne!

                        • To be a good liar you must have a good memory or you will be found out.

                          • SOME TIME ALL PEOPLE LIE IT COULD BE A BIB AR A SMALL /DO NOT WANT TO HURT YOU FLEEINGS OR JUST TO GOE OUT OF SOMETHING YOU TWO WEAR GOING TO TO THAT DAY AND ON THE OTHER HAND SOME A JUST JUST PLAIN AND SIMPLE LAYERS MIKE

                            • Please do not shout! - there is no need for caps, it is considered shouting and rude.

                          • Regarding the service department, not sure you could clasify that as a lie more like poor customer service. A friend lying to you depending on how damaging that lie is cannot be a true friend. I can never understand liars. First they have to have a good memory and most slip up all the time anyway.
