Margarita S16-Jan-22
Adventures sometimes may represent silly troubles, sometimes great fun, always desirable and always bring some people experience that can take them out of their comfort zone.

My best adventure came on the 12the Tth October 1961, when my parents took up abord a Ship called the Sydney to travel all the way to Western Australia, docking at Then Port Of Fremantle 2nd November 1961, it was the most adventure my brothers and I ever had, traveling across countries, and seeing things we only read about, or what our grandpa would tell us about Camels, Pyramides, and how young kids would duck dive of their dingies for money travelers and sailors would throw overboard for them, but the best was saved for last, being taxi driven through the City Of Perth, and stopping along the Swan River, We never Saw a River much less seeing people Crabbing, and Fishing, To which Mum quickly said No way would you be coming here, but she soon quickly changed her tune, when our journey led us all along the river edge and finally one street away from the River's Edge of the Place we came to call home. 6 hours into unpacking Dad had us down that river swimming and having fun, An Adventure I will remember for the rest of my life, even though my husband had our kids and me on many more but despite the sadness of leaving family behind that I will never see again, this place Australia will always be home to me

Being more the rest and recreation at the beach person I did go out of my comfort zone traversing two kilometres of the Great Wall of China. Some of the “stations” had no safety areas so considering I am terrified of heights and the path was only three foot wide I thought that was very adventurous of me.

Accompanying troops being sent for change-over duties at border posts in Ireland. We were in two helicopters which flew in a criss-cross pattern low to the ground with each door open and manned by an armed soldier. Don't ask how this trip came about, I can't say. (and it was almost 30 yrs ago)

We were pretty much tar babies and we managed to see a fair amount, money was tough at times so we would see things most tourists didn't get to and maybe not as much as they do like zoos and other attractions where you had to pay. Plus we had our little black and white dog so national parks were out too but that didn't stop us from seeing other things. He a well travelled little doggy he's even been to Tassie.

We were posted often and some of those trips were the best and some very interesting. Like the time we ran out of petrol on the Nullabour in 1982 (no bankcards in those days we had to get to a bank) or the time we arrived in Darwin Jan 1984 just after a rain storm and the humidity hit me in the face and I wondered what the hell my hubby had bought me too (fell in love with it after less than 24hrs). Or the time we were driving from Darwin to Sydney 2 kids little kids and the roads when we hit Queensland were terrible, I was driving. Or the people we have met all over Australia who are just wonderful. Our two girls have swum on both big reefs in Australia and have seen more of the country than others. we made the big move leaving the Territory for good 10 years ago and moved to a small country town and love it.

Five days drive and four overnight stops towing the big trailer loaded with some of our belongings. We decided we would rise each morning, have a "cuppa" then head off and have breakfast along the road to support outback roadhouses. That was great the first morning, second morning my husband followed the GPS and made a right turn instead of the left turn I was expecting. We ended up on the narrowest of roads in the middle of no-where. Crossed into Queensland and finally found a tiny town at about 10 a.m. Saw some people sitting around the pub and asked where we could buy some food. "Only place in this town is here at the pub and the barman is still sleeping after a big night!" So our breakfast that day was dry fruit cake and bottled water. Other mornings were lovely breakfasts. We don't regret the big move at all - we wish we had made it years earlier.

It was an on the spur of the moment decision compliments of Papa and nothing else can beat it was escaping from the Russian Invaders back in the 50s. There was the rest of the world hopping and bopping to Rock N Roll and there were we Ducking and Weaving the bullets, almost the same steps to different "kind of beat".

My husband wasn't keen, but I felt that it would be a good move, and it was. We feel very settled and happy in our new country. Then, with both of us in full time, permanent jobs, we both decided to resign, and we moved to Tasmania, (from Queensland where we had lived for ten years,) and went into a totally different field together - running a small business. It was a wonderful experience which both of us feel was the best experience of our lives. Then, with family illness back in Queensland, we knew we needed to get back onto the mainland, so I accepted a teaching post in a small town in the Outback. What an experience that was! After over two years there, we relocated once more to a large city, staying there for about six years before we felt a desire for change once more and moved further south to be closer to family. On each new adventure we have learned so much - about ourselves, new places, new people, and made many new friends. Adventures are definitely something to be enjoyed and celebrated.
