Discussion of the Day
Telephone surveys
Holly Cat25-Apr-23
I remember 20 plus years ago when landlines were still common, getting phone calls in the evening to complete a survey. It would go on sometimes for a good half hour and they were not paid surveys. So if I get frustrated from screening out, I think of the phone surveys I did for free and at least the online surveys pay something lol. Does anyone still get contacted to do an unpaid telephone survey, or are they a thing of the past?

  • You have to avoid any unknown calls now. It's too dangerous to take unveted calls. Stay safe. Too many Australians are being robbed on line and over the phone.
    ·
    • Yes... they just ring random mobile numbers now.
      ·
      • Yes, still get the occasional survey. They always lie about how long it will take, and they can be more long-winded than some we get here. I have no hesitation on asking: how much longer and then saying goodbye if they go overtime.

        • No! Can’t say I’ve really had any telephone surveys I can recall, could be a thing of the past, mind you my favourite saying was “not interested” still get call’s asking to sign up for donations ie green peace, Red Cross, rescue helicopter. I’m afraid charity stops at home these days, due to cost of living!

          • everyday phone calls for surveys&donations??
            ·
            • I think I should do telephone surveys for money only.
              ·
              • No! I am only willing to do online ones
                ·
                • I would always ask if I was being reimbursed for my time. If not, I’ll keep my valuable time to myself. I’ve been doing online surveys for over 20 years. Now I don’t have a landline, and don’t answer calls from unknown numbers or no caller ids.
                  ·
                  • They must be dead and buried now I don’t have a land line anymore and I don’t think they would want to pay to contact many cell phones
                    ·
                    • I was asked to do a phone survey. so I asked if I was going to get paid. the person said no, so I said no.
                      ·
                      • I have been asked if they had Prince Albert in a can
                        ·
                        • That's an oldie goldie!
                          ·
                      • I do remember one survey over the phone but I was paid for that one
                        ·
                        • I get political ones
                          ·
                          • This is a thing of the past alright but occasionally on-line surveys will have an option for a telephone interview as part of the survey if you agree.
                            ·
                            • I hate when the survey asks if you would like to be recontacted BUT it doesn't tell you that they only mean by email or telephone and once you have ticked "yes", you can't go back and change it to "no" and it asks you for phone, name etc (some surveys will send the same survey out to you again on the panel you are with)
                              ·
                          • I never did any free surveys before...but they are trying lots of new ways of getting free surveys via the internet...
                            ·
                            • So you have never been stopped in the street or at a shopping centre "just to answer a few questions"?
                              ·

I always ask them how much they are going to pay me for my time. End of conversation.

                          • Up to the person i do this survey to open my up. Where was this years ago.
                            ·
                            • Up to the person

                              • I 'never' did a telephone survey - because I have 'never' received a telephone call to do a telephone survey. However, I still do surveys that are mailed to me with cash enclosed. I am down to two mail-in surveys (annually) that are enclosed with $20 dollars (each) - each takes twenty minutes to complete, and each survey comes with a prepaid envelope to mail back to the survey entity (company).

                                • Oh yes, I got one of those, but it was onky $5 lol, but I did the survey.
                                  ·
                              • I was on the other side. I was the irritating person who called you! There would be an ad in the paper for these about four times a year and I always did them from my home. I also did a few for the Red Cross but they had phone banks set up.
                                ·
                                • i just put the phone down and let them talk they r not somuch surveys and trying to sell me something so i waste there time lol
                                  ·
                                  • Often during weeks or days before an election will I get surveys to answer on the landline.
                                    ·
                                    • Yes we still sometimes get those calls and my wife usually tells them that she is house sitting and the owners are away and hangs up. Rude or smart you be the judge
                                      ·
                                      • Not since I had my landline removed. Telemarketers etc. always rang at dinner time. I think it is rude. This is my phone for my personal use not theirs. Sometimes I used to get 3 - 4 calls a night. I just never engaged in them. Politely said I did not have time and hung up.

                                        • I love to complete mine online thank you!
