Should offenders be jailed for the rest of their lives without parole, leaving the bill to the taxpayer, which amounts to over $100k annually? Or should we just implement the death penalty? The only reason offenders receive these sentences is for the protection of the community not financial protection. If the death penalty were applied to severe life-without-parole offenders, both the community and the taxpayer would benefit. In either case, the offenders aren't stepping back into the community, so we might as well save the community the cost of looking after them. |
