I agree. How could we know if the prices vary depending on the whims of the shopkeeper? I want to know if I can afford something before I buy.

Likewise, if there isn't a price to be seen I won't buy.

I seriously don't know why they do it. I will 99% of the time walk away because my motto is 'no price, no purchase'. It disgusts me that they won't be transparent about the costs of products or if lax behaviour means products are unpriced.

what country or state in Oz are you talkin about? As I've never seen this hear in Sth Aust.

I think that if car yards don’t have prices listed on the vehicle I deem it too expensive for me! I have carried that over to everything else now.

And the ither thing i hate in coffee shops ...you can get a coffee and muffin for $6 but it doesnt say, small cup only...so if you order a medium coffee its usually $10 plus with the muffin...ripped off again

I get frustrated by clothing shops only hanging the clothing price tag inside the garment. I am continually having to search inside the article to find a price tag.

I agree with you and hate having to ask for a price. The saying "if you have to ask the price you can't afford it" is all well and good but my asking the price is has nothing to do with whether or not I can afford it. It's all about whether or not it's good value or worth the price. I'm not silly enough to pay through the nose for things that aren't worth the price.

I do not trust shops who do not willingly display their prices. I like to have some idea of what I am spending.

I haven’t ran across that but if I did I would walk right out. Makes you think they will charge you whatever they want to.

I see it often in the supermarkets. Its frustrating having to estimate what a item costs and then get a shock at the counter, especially when you have a budget in mind

I have not come across any shops like that, but if I did I would be in and out like a shot. If they want to keep their prices a secret I am not interested in any way and would not even bother to ask.

In the smaller store they would like to talk with you. They don't mind giving you the price on half of the stock. While talking to you they bet an idea of what you like and suit your price bracket.

If it's something I really want I will ask the price .. sometimes the reply is a nice suprise as its cheaper than you expected ! . if it's a market place and not marked I guess they are open for a haggle ? Rude not to have items priced. Sometimes one could be trying to decide between a couple of different items, but I agree there should be prices. No price - no buy!!!

Andrew c 287196 is probably correct when he says that shops which don't display prices are massively over-bloating their prices. Total Control of this is in the hands of the Shoppers. No Prices Marked? NO SALE. easy-peasy!. The shop, be it cafe, restaurant or any other sort of Retail will get the message or simply be sent to the wall. If they don't they will will deserve to lose their businesses.

It really annoys me, what are they trying to hide? I would tend to walk away as well.

I don't trust them. they may arbitrarily quote different prices to different people

I avoid those shops, I seems like they will try to rip you off. Let's set our own prices for these suckers!😆

I've come across a few but have never purchased anything from them and never will.

No price tag then no entering the store. They are on a rip off mission.

The only stores where I live (USA) that don't put prices on their goods are too expensive for me to even go inside. If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it!

I would say if they price things they scare potential customers away or at least feel that they will. No matter what not a place I would be going to.

They are obviously more expensive than elsewhere, go elsewhere that does display there prices.

I was in Aldi 2weeks ago and asked a staff member about the price of a tin of pineapple I couldn't find the price for. She told me it had been discontinued and would check the price for me. She came back with a perplexed look on her face and said it was $4.95.,would you like me to put it back. I just said yes please,but thanks for checking. Obviously she thought the same thing I did.( I am not paying almost $5 for tinned pineapple).

My philosophy on unmarked goods is if there is no price to be seen,I can't afford it.

I would have so much fun with this. I would ask the staff member the price of loads of items, probably more than once. I might mis hear them and pay way too little as well. I want to know where these stores are. Sounds like a good day out for friends and family.

Never struck this yet but if I did I would just ask how much the item was and then decide from there..No big deal.

I have only ever seen this at markets. If a shop did not have prices displayed, I would tell them that I am leaving and why.

I haven't seen that so much here, yeah I'll give you $5 for a $100 vase. If no prices are visible especially at bakeries ( which I never go in to any how.) ask how much? Doughnuts are like $5-$10 gosh I remember when they were $2. I find the supermarkets are cheaper for bakery items if I was to buy some thing or if not buy a packet cake and make it yourself. Even some of the packet cakes are $5 or above but I like baking so it doesn't worry me plus you get the size of cake you want which seem bigger than any brought cake these days. You never know until you ask as they say.

Before "you get what you paid for" you need to know what you're paying before you get it.

Yes I agree with the majority of you. I hate it with a passion when there are no price tags. I also will walk out if there are no employees to help. Sorry tosay it is a sad world where there is so much greed,

Is that a problem? My local cakeshop tried that once and didn't sell a single cake one day. Next day every single piece of cake was clearly labelled with the price which was lower than usual because the cakes were now more than a day old.

If I see this it annoys the hell out of me. I often say to my husband so they can hear me... Oh these must be all free.... Or so expensive they are too scared to put it on..

It usually deters me if I can't see prices. I know they say, "You can ask". But it can be a little embarrassing, to ask for all the prices and if they're too high walk away.

I would walk out too, without prices. It's embarrasing if it is more expensive than you expect and you can't afford to buy. Often expensive places leave the prices off to wangle their customers

POA (Price on application) or if you have to ask you can not afford. I'm the same as you and need to know - I have no problem walking out if the price is poor value for money

I know what you mean. When a person has a limited budget you like to know how much it is going to cost so you don't go overboard.

When on a fixed budget IE pension every dollar counts. So no prices no purchase at this shop or restaurant.

I think that it is actually rude to not price the items on display. If they want to sell their products, then provide the prices.

I wouldn't buy from a store that doesn't put the prices up. They are not transparent and probably they are not honest either. They can make the prices as they go. I would stay away from them.

I would ask to see if I could afford item or not. How else are they going get customers.

I would ask the price if only to know if the article was worth the price,if not I wouldn’t buy! Could make the assistant very cross ,asking the price of every article on display!! Makes their job harder ,& wasting their time!

I need to see the price before hand asking for the prices means I will probably walk out of the store not buying anything

This is a pet hate of mine. It's either like they can charge what they want or they price some people out of the market.

I'm with you, Kate. I can't make a purchase without knowing the price first. I've never shopped in my entire life where the price wasn't important to me. I'm very frugal and, even if I had the money to buy where the price was no object, I would still look for the best bargains! ;-D

Don't like that either I want to know the price of items before I decide to purchase not once I'm at the cash....with inflation we all have a budget so knowing if we should buy or not an item helps when the price is there to see. If there is no price I will usually not bother asking.

If there is no price clearly visible, I won't buy. Some stores make us find a scanning machine to find the price. As a partially disabled person I find that difficult and painful.

I think that when it comes to cake shops and bakeries that don't show prices for particular items, that those same shops hope that once they've enticed you into the shop that you'll be overcome by the delicious aroma and won't bother asking the price and you'll buy something anyway! I try really hard to avoid shops which I know I'll like so I don't get caught that way. I'm lucky in that I live in a small country town and the bakery here isn't in the league with the continental bakeries from where I used to live, and subsequently when I return to my old home I have to buy a favourite from once of those aforementioned stores regardless of the price! I rarely leave my home except for medical appointments so I'm not being tempted on a daily basis and I'm glad that almond croissants are so difficult to make that I wouldn't try making them myself! I need to see prices. So rude to assume everyone can just buy whatever they like without caring about the price. I've bought from a bakery a couple of times & been shocked by the price they charged for a small pastry. Now I want to know ahead of time!

I hate it when prices are not supplied on products meaning that I need the help of a shop assistant, the reason why prices are not displayed. I tend to walk out of the shop instead taking a little anger with me

Supermarkets, fruit, veggies, and butchers have all their products priced, also food hall’s, and restaurant’s with a menu, however cafe’s and bakeries not always. I agree with some of your feedback, ‘speak up and ask first!’ I’m inclined to cook, bake and make coffee at home, only going out once a week with a girlfriend, only paying alternative week’s, and we know now where to visit to get quality for our monies…

If there are no prices displayed, I walk out. I also no longer purchase items on Trade Me that do not have a p&p cost (I've been bitten a few times!)

If there is no price on an item, the store should be compelled to give the item to us for free. There's no way I would buy something in a store that doesn't display prices.
