Discussion of the Day
Easter Shopping
Kirsty07-Apr-23
A huge range of Easter chocs are now out there, 5 varieties of hot cross buns, Happy Easter cards - what next, rabbit costumes? Oh, wait... yes, there is! (Children's size)
Has Easter marketing got out of hand, or just meeting consumer demands?...

  • Easter eggs on sale Boxing Day!? The meaning of it has long gone not that I'm religious. Easter on sale 4 months of the year? Give me a break..
    ·
    • it is of no interest to me

      • I laugh because Easter Hot X Buns appeared in Supermarkets in most Australian states on Boxing Day. For those who are looking to feast on Hot X Buns on Easter Saturday...You may be out of luck. Most Supermarket's are SOlD OUT... No more to be made untill after Easter ...UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

        • Lol they were in NZ Jan too, don't get me started on selling them after Easter, lol

      • Ommmgggg I went to Walmart yesterday and a bag of Easter candy was $8 I didn’t buy any because of the price.

        • I just checked candy prices also. Knew that they would be up but not that much! My parents had a dime store during the 40s, 50s and 60s. Our Easter baskets, which we made, were .98, 1.98 and 2.98.

      • Who am I - too question anyone motivations when it comes to 'how' people celebrate their RELIGIOUS BELIEFS - Example: 'Easter' (based on the tenuous assumption of resurrection of Jesus)? My RELIGION is MONEY based on 'just meeting consumer demands' also better known as a born-again-capitalist (or is it a born-again-christian)?
        ·
        • Everything consumer has gotten out of hand! I love and am passionate about recycling so no need to buy....just renew!
          ·
          • Does the children know what Easter is really about or do they just know how much candy and toys they will get? Today Easter is money in the back ot all stores, and how they can rip people off with high prices. Most Easter candy is no longer made with Chocolate. Its just about how fast and how much candy be made to get the bucks. The children are getting enough junk put in there body to last their lifetime and of course it helps the dentist stay in business.
            ·
            • In my area we would never see Easter decorations on a house, it seems as though there are at least 1 on every block. Decorations on top of the endless choice of candy and chocolate if we're not buying it it wouldn't be sold meet the demands.
              ·
              • Are there easter decorations? Goodness, do I need to put the tree up? Lol

                • Like every holiday it's about money. How much money can a business make profit. The true meaning of a Special Holiday has been forgotten. Chocolate and candies. What does this have to do with the Real Easter Day Celebration?

                        • Easter shopping is fun. There is a lot of fun nice Easter presents. Easter is about resurrection and hope. It may be a part of a hallmark holiday but I don't look at it that way. Maybe if you do something for someone a good deed you will get something back somewhere and somehow. You just have to believe. In this day and age of crumby things happening we need some kind of fun and saving grace. To all who celebrate Easter happy easter and please enjoy whom you have left and treasure them even though they and you may not seem eye to eye.

                        • "5 varieties of hot cross buns"?!? There's a lot more than just five, plus there are hundreds of other "hot cross" products too (there was a recipe for a "hot cross smoothie" yesterday). Rabbit onesie costumes come in adult sizes, as well as dog-sized ones.
                          ·
                          • Yes it is out of hand. They are now making savoury cheese, chilli and chive hot cross buns. That is not easter. It is a Christian Festival not an opportunity for marketing. I only buy traditional hot cross buns 1 or two days before the Easter break. Anyway who can afford anything anymore. All out of control and tradition.

                              • Ridiculous custom of buying gifts, chocolates and all the other rubbish shops sell because of corporate greed. Easter is completely out of control and now doesn't really have any meaning at all. Hot cross buns will always be traditional but even they have been tampered with and are nothing like they used to be when I was growing up.

                                • I think it has got out of hand. One only has to see that some shops put out Easter eggs at Christmas!!! I doubt many of the younger generation even know why Easter exists. Bring back religious instruction in schools.
                                  ·
                                  • Christmas, Easter, Halloween and all those quasi-religious events are now nothing more than US-inspired Marketing Events. Interesting isn't it? The very person Christians worship is the one person who put the lie to all this religious stuff when he said "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" - After he, like so many others today, was brought up to believe that God (Yahweh/Allah) is All Powerful, All Seeing, All Knowing. If that is true why did this god allow the person promoted as being his only son to die, allows wars (OK they are man-made) Famine, Starvation, Disease to exist?
                                    ·
                                    • Romac, you have done what many who have NEVER read the Bible do by taking a verse, or a portion of the verse, and removes the context for which it was written. That portion of the verse found in Luke and the Book of Mark I believe although I will try and find the exact verse itself, believes happened as Jesus is dying on the Cross, and by the time He cried out to His Father God those words, He was in the process of taking on the whole entire world's sin. Jesus gave up His Divinity as a supernatural being, part of the Holy Trinity when he came to earth born of a virgin Mary, in order that anyone henceforth would be Saved from eternal damnation BY the fact that Jesus OVERCAME the sins of the world, but in order for Him to DO that God Himself, the Father, had to turn away from His Son because a Holy God could not look upon the wretched sins of humanity, from Adam and Eve right up to those Jews and Romans who gave Him up to die! Jesus had cried tears of blood the previous night while His apostles slept, had been taken away, sold for 30 pieces of silver by Judas Iscariot, a beloved friend and with a kiss no less. He had been beaten and scourged for hours and made to carry His own Cross, upon which He was meant to die! After being on the Cross for some time, we don't know exactly how long, He was lacking in strength NOT just physical but spiritual as every filthy deed was laid upon His shoulders and Satan HATED realising that his own desires to conquer humanity were going to be thwarted because Jesus only had a little longer to suffer before His physical death. That He cried out, a simple man, after enduring such agony doesn't take away His Victory and dominion over sin and death, but through His struggles we Christians see just how great His love for us was and is forever! This reply is already too long and I will answer your 2nd question separately.
                                      ·
                                    • I'll try and make this reply short Romac. SIN, OUR SIN, is the reason for murder, war, starvation, droughts etc. We seem to ignore our own actions with respect to causing these horrible events, but THESE horrendous actions are only going to become worse as the end of days draws near! We want to behave in wretched, unholy ways and when God doesn't come in and save us, then we blame Him. But when God created the earth and everything in it it was perfect, up until sin came into being by Satan who is alive and well today and seeking more souls which he can drag back to the bottomless pit with him. God is EXTREMELY angry with His creations, us, and preparing to completely destroy everything He made so that He can create "a new Heaven and Earth" where only those who confessed their sins and asked for Christ's forgiveness and asked Him to be their personal Lord and Saviour in life will be there with Him. Nobody DESERVES Salvation and my sins are wicked as was I before Jesus came into my life and I chose to follow Him! I understand that many today believe that Christians are hateful and bigoted, but I assure you that the judgement for their actions will be conducted by God alone! I mourn for the lost who, like my 5 adult children, NEED God in their lives, but their hearts have been hardened and their end will be horrible. Love is THE representation of Jesus on the Cross dying for those who despise Him. It's why TODAY IS the Holiest day of the year! Thanks for reading.

                                    • Everything has gotten out of hand because consumers want to overindulge their children! We can't blame it on the merchants. They are there to make money, and if consumers didn't buy it, they would no longer stock it. It's as simple as that, yet people are homeless and going hungry! I don't understand why people go along with all of this then blame it on other people. It's so simple, don't buy it and don't buy things made in China! People are just too selfish to help the greater cause! It applies to almost everything we do. When is enough, enough? I think not until the crap hits the fan, and the result is catastrophic to everyone!!! Too little too late, people! Wise up!!!

                                      • Happy Everyone!! With the cost of living, it is hard to for some people to purchase Easter gifts for loved ones. I agree the marketing companies have gone mad with producing Easter clothing for children, I haven't seen the rabbit costumes but I am sure I will see them when it is marked down for sale. Easter is a four day long weekend where I spend the time doing things that i enjoy.

Eggs are on the shelves in January. The retailers will tell you thats because customers demand it, not true. Most customers don't shop for the occassion until a few days before. The commercialisation has meant the loss of the real meaning whether it be Christmas or Easter. Shame on them.

Easter cards for kids are ok, because kids love to get cards. Easter chocolates have always been a mainstay so don't see a problem with that. Don't see need for costumes though.

Re use every year. Other stuff not so much. Less is more, can't live without the easter chocolate. The thing about merchandise and really all advertised products is you don't have to buy it. The one thing that does annoy me is seeing easter buns and chocolate 3months before Easter.

I bought my now adult kids' a big lindt bunny each..I'll get some prawns as a treat. Might have a ham & cheese croissant for brekky at some point That's about it. We are not religious, so Easter is simply time off & family time where possible. I plan to chill out, watch some netflix & indulge in a few bourbans & make some vodka berry slushies perhaps. Coles delivery had 20% off alcohol, so I bought both.

They just keep getting cheaper until they are all sold. I bought a load of Red Tulip dark mint Bunnies a couple of years ago for 20 cents each.

I looked at Hot Cross buns the other day, I like Brioche but there weren't any. The ordinary Hot Cross buns had all sold but there was a huge variety of others still available. It goes to show most people still prefer the ordinary original buns.
