Your favourite protest song
boy blunder05-Aug-22
Seems you can't speak your mind, but you sure can sing about it, what are your favorite protest songs, Ohio by Neil Young, not sure animals by Pink Floyd is a protest song, but they sure have a crack at big business in that one

              • I have never really cared for protest songs and prefer to do my protesting in person. Right now I'm busy protesting about the treatment of our aged citizens locked in very under staffed nursing homes. I wrote to my state member first but he said it wasn't his problem so I then wrote to my federal member. He has forwarded my complaints onto the minister concerned. So far all I am hearing is about zero carbon emissions which isn't helping a single person in aged care. If there is no movement from the minister I will go to the media. It has been more than two and a half years now, how much longer must they remain prisoners? I'd much rather pound the keyboard than sing about it.

                            • Just read this news and it's a great song: Pink Floyd have reunited to record their first new material in 28 years, a protest song against the Ukraine war. Hey Hey, Rise Up! features David Gilmour and Nick Mason alongside long-time Floyd bassist Guy Pratt and Nitin Sawhney on keyboards.

                            • Where have all the good writers gone? Long time passing. We have very little talent around these days. We have had protesting around the world over issues like climate, wars, and COVID, but where are the songs to match the issues of the age? The younger generation of writers have little imagination and talent. Decades ago, they had it in abundance. The baby boomers had a almost embarassing level of pure talent. Today... the younger writers prefer to write ...cheap, boring, dull, poorly constructed music and lyrics. Yes, where has all the good music gone, I wonder?

But was sang by a man...named...Joe Jackson. Called, Real men; That songs old, but a song that makes perfect sense and resonated with me somewhat. It's a song that every male should listen to at least once. And women too. A very thought provoking song. I think it's a song that makes you think. A song about what you are and who you identify as. Probably more revelatory today than ever ! The song being rather controversial as it opens up the question of what it means to be male in modern times. Some gays were offended by some of the words. For the time...it would of been seen as putting some people down. Others would of seen it as being rather brave. I doubt it would get airplay to day... if it was released in these PC times. That's why censorship should never suppress musical talent, as some songs are like works of art. The fitting together, and the blending of words, makes a song special.

Girls that wore pink, and boys that wore blue. Boys that always grew up better men than me and you. What's a man now, what's a man mean, is he rough or he rugged or is he cultural or clean. And so on;
