Interfering friends and family

The thing I hate most on TV shows , especially soaps like Coro, Shortland St, Neighbours, Home and away, is how it sees like it is the norm for people to think they have the right to interfere in other people's lives. They demand that secrets be revealed and have no respect for other people's privacy. I know it is only TV, but I think it gives the message that it is ok to get involved in other people's business without being asked. I think it is disrepectful to try and force others to share their business and then try to fix any issues. I would not allow anybody to be so disrespectful. I don't even know anybody who pries like that.
The classic example is Sheila in Neighbours. She is a shocker - interfering busy body who creates havc in other people's lives.
What do you think?

  • Happens in real life too, some people just don't have common sense and don't know what personal space and privacy is.

    • Sorry off topic a tad but i always have to laugh how there is always at least someone critically ill in hospital in coro st after being run over at least twice on that little street..attacked, caught in a fire or explosion or building collapse or all 5 at once. Suuuuch an unlucky street. (Please no offence to anyone who really has had any or all of those things happen).

      • So true - but I have to admit that I do love some of the characters in Coro.

    • Find something better to watch Joy...or stop watching TV altogether...soaps are all offensive rubbish..just like most live TV in Australia...You ever seen a movie called "Network"?...please do!

      • I enjoy watching the soaps but I don't take them seriously. I used to think they were a reflection of how other people live, but now I see them as entertainment. They also make me think about hw I would resolve the issues/challenges that come up. I am also forced to look at my own prejudices, values and attitudes.
