I am often saddened to see the loneliness of some residents living in aged care facilities. Many of them have loving familes who visit, but there are always others who never have visitors at all. In some cultures it is normal to care for an aged parent/s, however in other more developed countries and for various reasons, some adult children, abandon their aged parent/s, leaving them to get by the best they can while others believe their government will look after the aged anyway. I know there are many loving children who care for aged parents, but in cases where they don't, what should happen. Should there be laws in place to make offspring care for their parents or do these children have the right to live their lives without the burden of aging parents? |
