When I was young, you visited the doctor because you were not well. Today we visit the doctor so he/she can prescribe medicines before we get ill, Flu jabs, Covid injections that do not stop you from getting it does not kill it, and do not stop you from passing it on, injections for Shingles that you never hear anyone having, tablets for high blood pressure, tablets to lower your Cholesterol that your body makes to keep you moving and many more thing that Doctors prescribe you when you feel OK are we overprescribing medicine

legit never go to the Dr much these days at all. The only time i go is when i am really sick and need some help etc but thats not very often. Even when my Dr told me i should go to the ED i never did i wanted it out at home because to me i would hate to take a bed from someone who really needs it. As far as Drs prescribing stuff i do agree. My son had back pain the kid in 15 years never ever been to a dr because he was sick he went for a few needles but that was about it. When i took him to the Drs i told him this pain was out of the blue that he never bitches about his pain because the kid walked around with ingrown toe nails for like 3 months before telling us etc. So when i told the dr this is a little worrying for my likings he told me it was growing pains and to take these tablets. Of cause by the 3rd day it had gone and for three weeks he was find it went away. But then it came back and he was at high school in pain and the school called me to tell me that they was about to call an ambulance to take him to hospital because he was in pain. When my husband got him to the hospital (my husband wasn't going to take him back to the drs) the hospital took a simple blood test and their it was he had cancer sadly he passed away after spending 10 months trying to beat it. So i just think the drs are just quick to give you tablets or medication without finding out where or why its happening.

I'm so sorry to hear that Pamela ,he must have been one who had a very high pain threshold in life .Such a terrible shame things weren't caught at an earlier stage . And you're quite right, Dr's do not know everything . xx

I have a good doctor, we played a wee little joke on my wife who had accompanied me to get my blood test results I had had a chat prior to him seeing us, sugar normal, iron, a little high cholesterol is ok, oh but your bourbon levels are deficient, I suggest you go straight to the pub stat, he did it well even writing me a script for a bottle took her a few secs to catch on but was a good doctor-patient moment, but with a 5 / 6-week wait haven't seen a doc for about a year

I only go to the doctors when I’m sick. I give any bug 3 days to get out if my system before going. Never had a flu or shingles jab. Have only had 2 Covid jabs and that was due to elderly family members

YES we are However our government needs to fix our Medicare system to get medical specialists to start bulk billing again I need to see 5 different types of specialists for different things but cannot see any because they do not bulk bill anymore and each specialist costs a minimum of $180 per visit that is a total of $900 to see each of the 5 specialist for just ONE visit each and ALL specialist require more than one visit From each $180 the Medicare system only rebates about $35 which is why they refuse to bulk bill

It's true that some things can be managed through lifestyle changes like cholesterol or blood pressure for example. I think a lot of doctors recommend quick fix solutions because most people ask for quick fix solutions to their problems. Some things better to err on the side of caution, vaccinations being a good example, particularly if you are a vulnerable individual for whatever reason - immune compromised like cancer, diabetes, pregnancy, elderly - its better to be jabbed and deal with a less severe version of illness rather than chance it like the healthy young folks that aren't pregnant. If you're not happy with all the prescriptions then speak up to your doctor and ask them if there are holistic but effective ways for dealing with a particular problem. I did this with my doctor when I was obese and teetering on the edge of dangerous blood pressure which the doctor brought up and mentioned medication but she could see my reluctance to go on a lifetime of medication for a disease that could be cured from lifestyle changes so she gave me a prescription for a dietitian and discount card for exercise programmes and then said lose the weight and you won't have to take any pills. So there ya go. So from personal experience I think doctors do genuinely want to help but you need to communicate what you want and what you think would work better for you.

I had shingles when I was about 10/11. If my memory serves me correctly, it’s related to the Measles Mob.

if you have had chicken pox, you can get shingles and should be vaccinated for it, if you never have had chicken pox, you don't need the shot as you don't have the gene,,, hope this helps,,, it's nothing to go with measles 😉

I had shingles when i was a student at 19- having such a good time and clearly not taking care of myself. I remember going to a uni party and dancing even tho' i was sore. Ahhh the stupidity yet resilience of the young.

I have heard of lots of people having had shingles including my husband. It is a most unpleasant condition. I will be lining up in a month, when I turn 70, for a shingles vaccination. It does seem like a lot of prescribing but I really do think it is necessary. If cholesterol medication was around when my dad ad his heart attacked he would have most likely lived until he was 80 years of age instead of 45. How I would have loved to have him around for that much longer.

Took me years to be brave enough to decide that Poppy. Now I go for an injection of Vitamin B12 a few times each year for a small increase in my blood activity.
