How would you punish Covid border liars
Beverley S 38300102-Aug-20 10:16 am
We have problems with people sneaking across state borders or lying on their declarations. Three ladies have now brought Covid 19 back into our State after visiting a city which is a massive hot spot. I would actually charge them with manslaughter if anyone dies because of their actions.

I believe there should be jail sentences for people who make false declarations, attempt to illegally cross the borders and visit areas where they shouldn't re the Corona virus.. should any outbreak or transmission of COVID19 be traced back to such persons, they should be jailed , and should anyone die and the transmission of COVID19 is traced back to the lawbreakers, they should be charged and jailed for causing the deaths

I couldn’t agree more. After all they are prepared to put other people’s lives at risk for personal gratification which takes selfishness to a whole other level. We only have one life, but there will always be other opportunities in future for socialising. We’re not big enough in New Zealand to have States, but we’ve also had people breaking restrictions and lying in order to travel out of their areas. In some cases they’ve caused clusters and deaths (though few in comparison to the U,S.) . Yet all they’ve received is a slap on the wrist. To me that’s pretty insulting to the rest of us who have cooperated for all our sakes.

Name and shame them, and a fine as well. Its idiots like them that give the rest of us "law abiding citizens" a chance to vent our spleens in such times.

Here in NZ I think it costs the tax payer $4,000 per person who is quarantined in a lovely hotel. If they break the rules throw them in an isolated cell for the remainder of their quarantine. The majority of Kiwis abided by the rules hence almost wiping out the virus, and then the idiots arrive. Obviously selfish people who don't give a damn so why should we?

A massive fine is what they need then they will think twice about breaking the rules. We have idiots escaping from quarantine here in NZ,pisses me off!

Just so happy to live in a state thas has closed borders even if Vics are still trying to get in illegally. Why can't they stay in their own state ?? Those 3 women should be charged regardless and if their actions kill someone then they should be charged with manslaughter.

The problem with “ us Vics” is that we are stuck here, Covid free, with a whole lot of culturally diverse security guards that thought it was a good idea to have sex with the returned travellers that we had to accept as the majority were processed through Melbourne. Then they went off and shared their new found illness with their extended family units during a particular religious festival. It’s got nothing to do with the rest of us. We are suffering so don’t be an ignorant bitch.

You obviously didn't read my statement so be careful who you call an ignorant bitch.l I'm not talking aboujt the Vics who are doing the right thing. I am talking about the Vics who have entered our states by lying or hiding on trains or trucks or in boots of cars. Just remember we have all been stuck in our states. We have friends and family living in Melbourne and Sydney. It's the ones who are not doing the right thing by you and anyone else in Australia. For your information I have been in isolation since February as I have cancer, yes it's hard, but if everyone plays their part we can beat this. So stay strong.

Hi Sandra I did read your statement thoroughly. The issue I have with it is the tone of divisiveness. The “Vics” as you put it. This is one country and the state borders do not segregate us as people. Of course people want to get out of Victoria. Wouldn’t you if you were well and were looking at being locked down with an infectious disease that appeared to be running rampant? My family all have Common Variable Immuno Deficiency, so we too are in a precarious position like yourself. I abhor the whole “ kick a Vic “ mentality. I think that this situation will be going on for many years, in one way or another, and we will all need to lean in one another at different times. I hope that clarifies things. Regards Christine

Quarantine for 7 days and make sure they understand these things.

7 day quarantine is not enough and it should be 3 weeks.

Take away their make up, no access to a mirror, all lip filler and other cosmetic “enhancements” removed, no hair product or straightening treatments, must wear clothing that doesn’t expose the rest of society to their bits etc... They will die!

I think the fines do not seem to be a deterent to the influx of these people who think they can flout the rules. The girls brother gave a foul mouth interview saying it was not their fault and said it was because they were black they were being picked on. I get sick of the race card always being pulled out when they do something wrong like this. I do not care what their color, race or gender is. The mother also defended them saying it was not their fault. So the apple may not have fallen far from the tree it seems. No respect for anyone. Australians always look after their mates but obviously many people do not live by this. I live in Queensland and we are now angry, worried and scared in some quarters all thanks to these morons. Of course they will not be the only ones who will try and jump over the border. I personally think it should not have opened up again as the virus was on the increase in Victoria and NSW showing the 2nd wave was beginning. Another mistake by the people who are supposed

They should be put on 10 years good behaviour - any further offences they go to jail. Sound like spoilt brats to me - brother is part of their problem. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISGUSTED.

Yes the family should have at least realised this was so wrong but unfortunately it seems they do not care.

I must agree with all of the guidelines clearly set out these people do not have any excuses for breaking these laws that are clearly set out for people to follow in order to keep this insidious illness at bay so yes manslaughter is certainly a good option

I think the only avenue open for punishment is monetary fines. They are being publicly shamed. I can't see the lady who worked in some capacity at the school keeping her job or in any case any of them being viewed as trustworthy by their employers.
