THE GREATEST TEST
Lynette 149026802-Apr-24 07:53 pm
THREE YEARS AGO I WAS INVOLVED IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM A MEDICAL PROCEDURE WHEN I PASSED OUT BEHIND THE WHEEL OF MY CAR. I WAS TRAVELLING AT 100 KILOMETRES AN HOUR AND HIT A B-DOUBLE SEMI-TRAILER HEAD ON. THE IMPACT THREW THE CAR BACK, IT SPUN AROUND AND FLIPPED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. I WOKE UP TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITH MULTIPLE INJURIES. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. I WAITED FOR THE EMERGENCY SERVICES TO ARRIVE WHICH TOOK OVER AN HOUR. FINALLY, POLICE, RESCUE SQUAD, FIRE BRIGADE, AMBULANCE AND A HELICOPTER SHOWED UP. IT TOOK THEM ANOTHER HOUR BEFORE I COULD BE RELEASED FROM THE VEHICLE. I WAS AIR-LIFTED TO THE GOLD COAST UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. I HAD MULTIPLE INJURIES AND HAVE SPENT THE LAST 3 YEARS UNDERGOING MULTIPLE SURGERIES. MY LAST OPERATION WAS LAST MONTH. I AM FINALLY TO A STAGE WHERE I FEEL LIKE I AM OUT OF THE WOODS AND ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM OF PAIN AGAIN. THE ONE THING THE EXPERIENCE TAUGHT ME IS THAT LIFE IS PRECIOUS AND THAT WE SHOULD ALL BE GRATEFUL TO BE HERE. IT MADE ME MORE PATIENT AND MORE UNDERSTANDING OF MY FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS. EACH DAY IS PRECIOUS AND WE SHOULD ALL STRIVE TO BE THE VERY BEST WE CAN BE AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE OTHER PEOPLE AND LISTEN TOO. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL IF YOU CAN MAKE IT THE WAY YOU WANT IT.

Dear Lynette - I hope the rest of your life is full of peace and joy. You have certainly had enough of life's traumas and I trust the rest of your life will be full of peace and content. Your positive attitude as expressed in your letter shows you have the strength to go one and face whatever comes.

IT IS ONLY PART OF THE STORY I SHOULD WRITE A BOOK BUT I DO NOT THINK ANY ONE WOULD BELIEVE IT. THE ONE THING THAT I HAVE LEARNT DURING MY LIFE IS THAT YOU MUST NEVER GIVE UP. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT LIFE THROWS AT YOU. ALWAYS GET UP, DUST YOURSELF OFF AND START AGAIN. THE LAST TALK I HAD WITH MY DOCTOR WAS INTERESTING. HE SAID, ' GO AND LIVE YOUR LIFE LYN BUT BE CAREFUL' I THOUGHT THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY. MEANING, GO AND HAVE A GOOD LIFE BUT BE AWARE THERE ARE THINGS THAT CAN HURT YOU. WHETHER IT BE PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, SPIRITUAL PAIN ALL OF US ARE CONNECTED. SO NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF PAIN YOU HAVE SUFFERED THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THROUGH WORSE. IT IS A GOOD THING TO REMEMBER. BECAUSE IT WILL CENTRE YOUR THOUGHTS. YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE. IT WILL GIVE YOU INSPIRATION TO DO BETTER. BECOME A BETTER PERSON AND TO STRIVE TO BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE. I THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WISHES AND THOUGHTS. ALL THE BEST LYN XX

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that; not only the accident but the aftermath as well. I've been going through a rough patch due to a death in the family and children moving to other states, leaving me to cope on my own. After reading your story I realise that there are other people far worse off than me and Ive determined that it is up to me to get on and make something of what time I have left on this earth. So I'm sending you my best wishes for the future and a big thank you.

I was hit by a car whilst riding a bike, he answered his phone,i spent 6 months in hospital, and 1 year learning to walk again and you are right it was a huge reality check, life did change for me, and for the better, you do see things in a different light, I appreciate the little things I find joy in giving instead of receiving. my accident was over 20 years ago,i believe it to be a positive thing in my life, doctors at the time told me i was lucky to be alive and I should invest in a lottery ticket, I invested in life and have been rewarded time and time again

It certainly takes a near death experience to give one a true perspective on life. After my massive heart attack and subsequent surgeries ( by pass and pacemaker ) two years ago I am truly thankful to see the dawn of each new day. My outlook on life has certainly changed as has my sympathy towards my fellow humans. Hopefully I am a better person for it .
