Also, each state has their own accent, so we don't understand eachother sometimes :) I'm in the US, where we spell colour as color :) The boot is a trunk. What's a kilometer? It's been termed Americanese. We could have a fun discussion about words we didn't know were words.

  The Americans like turning nouns into verbs..and at the other end they use old English words that are no longer used as well...they totally removed all French influence..that's why you use color...most of the different spelling are because of that..BUT that was on the advice of an Englishman...."purifying the language"(and also making it more Germanic) ...Webster..the guy who wrote your dictionary...your miles and gallons are a result of you adopting British standards at the exact same time that Britain established an entirely new set of rules...you guys say Fall instead of Autumn....but everyone called it Fall until it was changed to Autumn...it's weird Edited 15-Aug-23 21:56pm

  Yes, interesting. My husband is from another country, so he learned British English. He has to stop himself from saying, "Once in a fortnight,' among other things lol. We don't use fortnight in the US. He mentioned the nouns into verbs, but I can't think of any at the moment. Hmmm, is "Stop clowning around," one of these instances?Edited 15-Aug-23 22:09pm

I guess in less than another 50 years, we just won't be able to understand what they are saying in the US. Then again are we still going to have the King's English then??

I love the kings English. Have you read the instructions on how to put something together from China.Oh my God. I see so many grammatical errors. Some of the sentences don't even make sense. Even with spell checker and grammar correction on Word, they still get it wrong. English is a beautiful language. Well perhaps you could wait with BATED breath to find out ? ., Yes that's right,, I did deBATE wether to ever raise the issue but since grammar is at the forefront here ,couldn't help myself .;)) And no I'm not baiting you.. Abated ..meaning to bring down,,lower or depress . Shortened to BATED in reference to holding one's breath in nervous anticipation , as opposed to baiting one's breath to catch something persay with something like worms ...?

	It doesn't exist as a word..smells American?...its a program that fools others that you have a good grasp of English and can do basic structured English...I have been forced to watch this stupid advert again and again...what are you going to do if someone ever gives you the job?.thats the end isn't it?
