What the..?

Although some daily discussions are interesting and promote healthy debate and great exchange of ideas or entertainment, I often wonder how some topics get chosen as "Discussion of the day". What are your thoughts? Do you think they are randomly chosen, actually chosen or something else? Do you think that only topics that promote good discussions or information should be "Discussion of the Day" or are you ok with totally random ones like "Where did my sock go?" or "Do you have a left and right sock?" or "Do you put on your left shoe or right shoe first?" etc

  • Lachelle B, I share your horror of the bad spelling and grammar. It's an indictment on the schooling system in many countries.
    • I'm more in awe of the bad spelling and grammar. I'm aware that English may be a second language, or are dyslexic but Rewardia should proofread discussions before posting, including their own.
      • When you see mistakes in spelling and grammar in journalism and many teachers do not pick up spelling and grammar errors in the work of their students, it is probably expecting too much from moderators to proofread posts for discussions.

Reminds me of an advert posted on Neighbourly from an English teacher offering after school tuition. Many noticed a lot of spelling mistakes and commented. She took her post down within hours. 馃ぃ
    • Some of the topics do seem rather silly, but it doesn't bother me at all. We can pay them back by making silly comments.
    • i put my socks over my shoes,, it keeps my shoes clean,,,,,
      • In some grocery stores they have umbrella bags up front. A time on my way out, it was raining. Of course, I didn't have an umbrella with me, so I waited up front until the rain slowed down. I saw a man take the umbrella bags and put them over his shoes, then walk out. I suppose he didn't want to get his shoes wet lol.

But what if there is no dryer and it is not in the washing machine or at the bottom of the laundry basket? These socks are sneaky ;)

    • Well I am not really sure what the problem is. It is just a fun thing. You can just ignore any you don't find interesting.

        • That is so sad Chosen. Are you still waiting for the answer?

          Nope.

You didn't see what he was chosen FOR....
        • MANY come but FEW are Chosen. Seek and you will find.
      • Chosen by chance. I think that they play dice.
        • That would certainly explain some of the more unusual topics.
      • There are definitely topics posted that are a waste of everyone's time, but are people not on these pages because they have time to waste? So really, I don't care.
        • Definitely ones that promote good discussion.

          • Even though I may reply to ones that ask "where did I leave my pen", I don't think it is an earth shattering enough topic to have as a topic of the day (it may indicate that topics are either chosen randomly or the moderators have a warped sense of humour and are curious to see how we will respond to such topics).

I know through talking to the Rewardia staff that they are not randomly chosen as in put in a jar and blindly pull one out and it gets published. They read and select the ones they want. I wrote in and asked why we we having so many repeat polls and discussions. They asked me for an example and I provided several. It's like the same polls were being altered by one choice in the poll and submitted after someone read a poll and saw it got published, so they'd alter it by a word and try to get it published and, of course, as I said, yes, it was. I firmly believe individuals were copying others successful publications for the points that come with them. One of my polls was repeated by someone else and I won't say which one or who resubmitted it, but it was like word for word like mine, except they changed one choice in the poll. Sorry, that's NOT a coincidence. And it's happened many times lately. I wrote in about it and they thanked me for bringing it to their attention and said something like "not letting it happen anymore", I think. Anyways, I agree, that there are many that are truly meaningless and are just taking up space where better submissions could be. I sent in a slew of what I consider to be important issue type of content and not one has been picked for months. I used to have a discussion or poll published pretty regularly. It's ok by me though. It doesn't bother me. I just laugh at the silly, inconsequential discussions and polls I do see being chosen. And they are specifically chosen, I know that, bc I asked that very question. I've gotten to a significant amount of points also, and maybe they don't select mine bc they don't want to have to pay me, bc I'm coming for a chunk of cash soon enough. Maybe they don't want to contribute by giving me 1000 points more anymore?? That is my speculation as to one reason they have just stopped publishing me. They ask for trivia, bc they don't get a lot of submissions, and I've sent in some great ones. But none published for months. It's just strange how it just suddenly stopped for me. I wonder if anyone else has experienced what I have.

She's copied other polls and discussions herself, silly bitch. Yet she blamed others for doing the same thing in the past. Unlike her I never copied any polls or discussions. I was on here longer than her so I should know.
          • I am happy I have not seen any annoying polls that often get published and repeated on many sites. My top irks are: Cats vs Dogs, which is a better pet? (and any variation on this theme) Battle of the sexes: which sex is better at ... Holden vs Ford I know there are more but these ones are done ad nauseum
