Unusual (but Paid) Jobs you have done in your Life
Chosen21-Apr-23 07:34 pm
So from my since being a student till now and in order to earn a few extra bucks on the side I have towed Advert signs behind my Vespa, Driven cars off the Car ship vessels once they have arrived into Port, helped doing Post Mortem Dissections and commercially skinned O'possums. What's your most unusual paid job from the past ??

At a younger age, while I was still finding my feet - a glass bender. Yep, that was the job title. Worked nights in front of a very large and very hot rotating furnace kiln. We had long poles and we reached into the flames and placed flat sheets of glass onto the molded seats, they went around inside the kiln and then rotated back into view, perfectly melted, molded and shaped. We then took them out and placed them to cool off. It was quite complicated as there were 25 sheets of glass inside at any time. The molding seats came out with the glass and new seats had to be placed in and then new glass sheets had to be put onto them.5-man crew all working in harmony. If one man missed his task, then it would all stop. On a good night we would shape 2000 glass molded ceiling lights.

A good job during a cold winter. I went to and watched the Venetian Glass blowers in Italy and it was very very interesting and very very technical.

Yep, this was in Melbourne during winter, and we were wearing shorts and t-shirts in front of the flames, at our back was a wide-open factory door with 4deg Celsius outside.

When I was at Uni I spent a holiday weekend looking after a lady with hepatitis, I had to get a big needle in my leg for that one. I've also housekept for a French air engineer's children, both those jobs was an eye opener on how the other half lives!

Nuclear waste clean up facility. Balls starting glowing in the dark so I quit and became a rodent exterminator. I was called the pied piper. The town folk did pay me though nett 30 days. Lucky.... Got tired of that so I became a camel wrangler. Those critters can really spit...then I threw my hand at clearing sewers for rich people that was a really sh..it job. Then I decided to become an inventor that lasted 30 minutes so I moved to be a politician now I'm the leader of the country

I only ever worked in hospitality so classified as not particularly unusual.. However I did have to prepare some unusual menu items for the general public's consumption . One of which was carefully poached peeled ,sliced and fried pigs testicles.. grr! (tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette salad. )

Coats made out of O'possum hide + fur are one of the warmest coats one can have. Better than mink.

I wouldn't say dissecting a corpse under supervision of a Post Mortem surgeon was every students dream or occurrence.

Too many jobs to name. Some quite difficult, but none that I would call unusual.

It wasn't all I did, but many years ago I worked briefly in a nursing home that had a smoking room for residents and I was young and new and the one sent to sit with a resident in the smoking room while they smoked. I don't smoke, so it was odd to me. They weren't allowed to smoke alone.

There is a difference between paid...paying any tax... and it even being entirely legal...so I suspect a lot of people suddenly cannot remember.... .and all the other guys who didn't get paid but had other reasons for doing it cannot tell you either!
