$8 for 1 dozen eggs
Edward S 49734718-Jun-23 01:33 am
I recently heard that eggs are going to DOUBLE in price meaning a minimum of $8 to $14 for one dozen eggs
Should councils allow everyone to keep thier own chickens for fresh eggs?
Should rental property owners allow tenants to keep chickens for fresh eggs?
Eggs have often been hard to get in supermarkets in recent months and soon supermarkets are cutting out caged eggs which will lead to a much bigger shortage which is the cause of eggs increasing to the above prices.
Soon eggs will be a LUXURY item which only the rich people can afford

Yeah if they go to $14 a dozen I won't be buying them. I live in the country so wouldn't rule out getting chooks

Eggs from chickens reared in back gardens in the inner city can have up to 30 times more lead in them than that from country reared chickens

Which would make them 700 gm packs instead of 600gm packs and more expensive… Maybe that is why we have to use unleaded petrol these days..

Only if you have backyard chickens maybe. The thought comes to mind, did they test anything else, like carrots, tomatoes or llamas…And another thought, how long ago was this test conducted, I can’t imagine that there are a lot of suburban chickens hanging around in Sydney these days. Except in the inner city night clubs late at night perhaps.

Those tests were probably paid for by the egg farmers meaning results would be in thier favour to sell more eggs from farms. My neighbour has chickens and reckons thier eggs taste better because they are fresher IF there were more lead in eggs from backyard chickens then there would be more lead in vegies and fruit from backyard gardens

maybe the vegies are planted in new soil..all my vegies grow in brand new soil I buy.. and if you use scientific standards like "it tastes better"...maybe the vegetables are full of lead too?...no-one said they didn't taste good!

well our chickens here in NC don't have a lead in the ground problem, only problem our chickens have with metal is when they stop layin and go from layin hens, to soup chickens, they then have a problem with very sharp steel from my ax,, and it is always fatal,, but the results are always tasty,, 🥰

I don't think $8 for 12 eggs makes them a luxury item...and the chickens aren't suffering...and why are we now talking about dogs in rental properties?.....dogs don't lay eggs?.....stay focused guys!

I stood on a brown doggie egg once, it didn’t smell nice, I think it must have been off…

Was talking about dogs because the first person to reply said she is a landlord of a rental home and rejects tenants applicants if they have a pet

Sounds like a big industry shakeup in egg marketing soon! A lot of areas near Sydney used to have hundreds of chickens running around. Most of that are is now filled with dreary large grey houses or high blocks of flats.Seems there isn't even room for the chickens now!

That would be one reason why eggs are becoming rare and forcing up prices because a lot of egg farms are closing and becoming housing development sites

I can understand your reasoning. I live in a rental property, have a small indoors dog and moved to our current home in late 2018 We lived in our previous rental home for 17 years and for 12 of those years every time it rained brown runny marks showed up on walls in 2 rooms, meaning a leak in roof and agent and owner did nothing to fix it In last 5 year there every time it rained water came up through part of the loungeroom floor and saturated the carpet and again nothing was done to fix it It got so bad that the agent blamed the brown marks on walls on smoking indoors, which I never did and the agent falsely accused my dog of peeing on the loungeroom carpets and these false accusations made it hard for me to get approved for another rental home After being rejected for the first 2 homes I applied for and finding out the reason when I applied for the 3rd home I explained the situation to the agent and invited him to come look at the house I had been renting for 17 years, As soon as he walked in the house he said there is NO odour of dog urine, he then walked into the loungeroom and saw the saturated carpet and said based on his 40 years experience that is NOT dog urine there is obviously water coming up through the floor. He then saw the runny brown marks on the loungeroom and dining room walls and said that is definately NOT from smoking it IS definately water coming in from the roof. He said I can definately see that you and your dog take good care of the house and property and that the agent has been extremely negligent in properly maintaining the house and that they legally have NO right to rent the property to anyone in that condition. He, the agent then highly recommended me and my dog to the owner of our current home who offered me a lietime lease My dog and I have now lived here for 5 years during which the owner has been through the house himself several times each year and has always been extremely satisfied with how my dog and I look after the house and property. Therefore my point being NOT all tenants with pets damage the home Although I do agree that some dogs do cause damage therefore in fairness to other tenants when someone with a pet applies for your rental home if they sound like a good potential tenant just have the agent inspect thier current home for damage or non damage before rejecting thier application because you might be rejecting a potential very good long term tenant

As a landlord, I do not allow any pets after being so naive about all the damage they can cause when the owners do not have well behaved pets!

I too would never ever allow any dogs to be in any of my rental properties.
