Does Government really care about the cost of living? | ||

Especially within Australia, we often hear about our Government claiming they are concerned about high energy costs and other high costs of living and claim to be doing something about it. With GST being charged on almost every product and service; do you think they really care about HIGH energy prices and High costs of living? Do you think they really care when big businesses, such as energy companies; overcharge people on their bills? Of course they do not care, because the more we pay for products and services; the more the Government receives in GST. Even the "Complaints" system is set up in such a way as to let big businesses do what they want and get away with it, because each avenue of complaint such as Ombudsman and ACCC will only do so much, but not enforce companies to do the right thing. I use to live in one house for 17 years and my average electricity bill for 3 months, after discounts was around $350 When I first moved into my current home, in an adjoining town; I received my first electricity bill ONE month after moving in and AFTER discounts that bill was around $420 ( meaning over $1200 for 3 months ) and my energy company and Ombudsman DENIED that bill was wrong....The man who checked the meter told me it IS faulty but meets Australian government standards so he has to report NO fault. From my very next electricity bill each bill was more like what it should be, being around $350 after discounts. In 2018/2019 my average NON winter gas bill was $50 for 2 months and $150 to $170 for 2 months in winter. In 2020 / 2021 I have HALVED my gas consumption but yet my gas bill has DOUBLED..... Again the energy company denies a problem, the Ombudsman does nothing and ACCC refuses to investigate energy companies. What is your thoughts about big businesses, your experiences and your opinion of the "Complaints and Investigations" system set up by the Government ??? |
